Guard Off Royal Wedding After Online Posts

April 25, 2011

According to the British Ministry of Defense, a Buckingham Palace guard has been pulled off of royal wedding duty this week because of offensive posts on his Facebook page.

From CNN:

Cameron Reilly, the guard, used an offensive term to describe Pakistanis on his Facebook page, which was taken offline on Monday. CNN saw the comment before the page was removed.

“In view of the nature of the allegation, it would not be appropriate for the individual to be on parade for The Royal Wedding,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

Reilly, who was pictured on his page wearing the traditional tall black bearskin hat of Buckingham Palace guards, did not immediately respond to CNN attempts to contact him via Facebook.

WikiLeaks Julian Assange Arrested, Appears in British Court

December 7, 2010

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested by British police on a warrant issued in Sweden surrounding allegations of sexual crimes.

For those who have been under a rock lately, WikiLeaks is the controversial website that has leaked thousands of secret U.S. military and State Department documents in recent times.

From Bloomberg/BusinessWeek:

Assange, 39, will remain in custody until his next hearing on Dec. 14, Judge Howard Riddle ruled today at City of Westminster Magistrate’s Court. Assange told the court he will fight the extradition.

“These are serious sexual offenses,” Riddle said at the hearing. He said that the case is not about WikiLeaks.

Assange was arrested “by appointment” today at 9:30 a.m. after Swedish police issued an international arrest warrant. His surrender to police followed a European warrant on one count of unlawful coercion, two counts of sexual molestation and one count of rape allegedly committed in August 2010, the police’s extradition unit said in an e-mailed statement.
