Baby Left in Arena Toilet Holding on to Life

February 8, 2011

An infant is clinging to life at a South Carolina hospital this morning, three days after being abandoned in an arena toilet following a circus show.

From CNN:

A custodian discovered the infant, thought then just to be an hour or so old, late Friday night at Greenville’s BI-LO Center. The boy was immediately brought for medical attention, with authorities unaware of how he’d gotten there or who his mother was.

Greenville Police Chief Terri Wilfong told HLN’s Nancy Grace on Monday that authorities were sifting through videotape taken in and around a particular restroom, hoping to identify the woman who gave birth to the boy. Still, a single camera wasn’t fixed on that site the entire night, she noted.

“The cameras do not stay stationary — they move, so they do not have a constant vision of the bathroom,” she said.

The Tide Has Turned…#1 Alabama Goes Down

October 9, 2010

Congrats to South Carolina! The cocks got beaten pretty badly today but in the end, they stood tall in a victory over #1 Alabama.

It’ll be interesting to see how far the Crimson Tide drops in the polls…and to make things even more interesting, the first BCS poll comes out next weekend!

Assuming the Oregon Ducks win today, here is my new Top 10:

1. Ohio State

2. Oregon

3. Boise State

4. TCU

5. Nebraska

6. Alabama

7. Oklahoma

8. Auburn

9. Arizona

10. Utah

I find it hard to place Alabama. In reality, I’d love to rank them about #8 but in reality, I see them landing at #5.

Murder Charges Sought in South Carolina Drowning

August 17, 2010

Shaquan Duley has confessed to killing her two young children with her bare hands and driving their bodies into a river.

I saw this on the news last night, and it was one of those stories that just makes you cringe.

From CNN:

Shaquan Duley, 29, told police she smothered her toddler sons at the Trumps Inn motel in Orangeburg by placing her hands over their mouths, Williams said. He added that the children were dead before she put them in their car seats and drove them to the river while “trying to find a way to discard the bodies.”

Williams said Duley is not a hardened criminal, but an angry, upset, unemployed woman who felt she had no way to support her kids.

“She just wanted to get rid of the children, as sad as it may be,” Williams said.

He said Duley had argued with her mother, with whom she lived and who he described as “firm,” the night before the incident.

“I believe she was fed up with her mother telling her she couldn’t take care of her children and she wasn’t taking care of her children,” Williams said.

Priest to Deny Holy Communion for Obama Voters

November 14, 2008

A priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina, has told parishioners that those who voted for Barack Obama should not receive Holy Communion until they’ve done penance.

From USA Today:

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman told The Greenville News on Wednesday that church teaching doesn’t allow him to refuse Holy Communion to anyone based on political choices, but that he’ll continue to deliver the church’s strong teaching on the “intrinsic and grave evil of abortion” as a hidden form of murder.

Both Democratic president-elect Obama and Joe Biden, the vice president-elect, support legal abortions. Obama has called it a “divisive issue” with a “moral dimension,” and has pledged to make women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a “priority” as president. He opposes a constitutional amendment overturning the Supreme Court decision.

At issue for the church locally and nationwide are exit polls showing that 54% of self-described Catholics voted for Obama, as well as a growing rift in the lifestyle and voting patterns between practicing and non-practicing Catholics.

From the Associated Press:

“I hate planes,” Barker said in an interview with Us Weekly magazine. “My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened … well, I’m just thankful to be alive! I’m just grateful to be here at all.”

The 32-year-old musician and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM were the only survivors of the crash just before midnight Sept. 19 at the main airport in Columbia, S.C. Two pilots and two other passengers were killed, including Barker’s assistant Chris Baker.

Barker was released from a Georgia hospital last week and is now being treated at a burn center in Los Angeles. He said he was too afraid to fly cross-country, so he arranged to travel by bus with his father and ex-wife Shanna Moakler to keep him company.

“I am doing the best I can possibly be,” he said in the magazine’s latest issue. “I’m so anxious to get out of here. … I’ve just been in surgery after surgery. I have third-degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands has second-degree burns and one has third-degree burns.”

“I’m trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again,” said Barker, who has two children, Landon, 5, and Alabama, 2, with Moakler.

Fear of Frying Headline Shows Disrespect to Travis Barker

October 1, 2008

The NY Post ran this article today entitled Fear of Frying, which distastefully uses a play on words to describe Travis Barker’s plane crash and subsequent decision not to fly. Barker was released this weekend after a plane crash just one week ago which left four dead and Barker sustaining horrific burns to his lower body.
