Body Found in California Canal is Missing 4-Year-Old Juliani Cardenas

February 1, 2011

The body of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas has been found in a Central California canal, ending the search for the child who was kidnapped from his home nearly two weeks ago.

From the San Jose Mercury News:

A water department worker spotted Juliani Cardenas’ body floating in the Delta-Mendota Canal and called 911 around 7:30 a.m., said Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson. The body was found about 30 miles downstream from where a vehicle belonging to the man suspected of kidnapping Juliani was recovered last week.

“From the very beginning, we wanted to find little Juliani alive. That was our goal,” Christianson said. But as the days progressed, “we just knew that wouldn’t happen.”

Investigators have not located the suspect, who is the ex-boyfriend of Juliani’s mother, but they believe his body also will be found in the canal, Christianson said.

Missing California Boy Found Safe

October 18, 2010

Dylan Kurihara, who was the subject of an Amber Alert here in California over the weekend, has been found safe and sound after being reported missing after he attended a wedding with his dad.

From CNN:

A man who had heard about the missing boy found Dylan in a car in a parking deck about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, said Chief Phillip Sanchez of the Pasadena Police Department.

“The great news here is that he was in his car seat. He was asleep at the time we found him. He’s in good shape,” Sanchez told reporters.

Dylan and his father had gone to a wedding Saturday night, reported CNN affiliate KABC. When he did not return home, his mother reported him missing to police Sunday morning.

Police began their investigation and discovered the father had been arrested about 10:30 p.m. Saturday for public intoxication.

Lost Boy Found Wandering New York Subway

November 25, 2009

13-year-old Francisco Hernandez Jr. spent 11 days in the month of October wandering New York’s subway system until a police officer recognized him from a missing persons’ poster.

From CNN:

Francisco Hernandez Jr., who has Asperger’s, a developmental disorder that affects the ability to socialize and communicate, disappeared on October 15, after he thought he was in trouble at school, according to his mother, Marsiela Garcia of Brooklyn.

Garcia told CNN that she contacted police when her son went missing, but received little help.

Garcia said she and her husband took matters into their own hands and posted signs and fliers around the neighborhood, in public areas, even in the subway. “Nobody told me nothing,” she said.

The teen was eventually identified by a transit police officer in the Coney Island section of New York, after the officer recognized him from the fliers that had been posted throughout the subway system. He was returned home unharmed.

Missing Toddler Found Alive in Missouri

May 7, 2009

Great news! When you hear missing children stories these days, they don’t always turn out with a happy ending.

A 3 year old boy who wandered away from home has been found in good condition after spending more than 2 days lost in the hills of Missouri’s Mark Twain National Forest.

From the Associated Press:

Thirsty, dirty and tired after spending two days and nights in the woods, 3-year-old Joshua Childers was ready to go home.

The boy was lying on the ground of a hollow near a creek bottom in Mark Twain National Forest Wednesday afternoon when a volunteer searcher spied his bare bottom.

“Hey, bud!” called out Donnie Halpin, a 57-year-old construction worker from nearby Fredericktown, who wasn’t sure whether the grimy figure was even alive.

But Joshua sat right up and grinned at his rescuer.

“You ready to go home?” Halpin asked.

“Yeah,” said Joshua.

The boy was wet and only wearing a T-shirt and one tennis shoe. Halpin called 911, then wrapped the child in his shirt, scooped him up and carried him about a half-mile to a house.

Authorities Searching for Kansas Boy Who Disappeared Ten Years Ago

January 7, 2009

We’ve talked a lot on this site about the Caylee Anthony disappearance which eventually led to the finding of her remains in December. We’ve also discussed her mother, Casey Anthony, and the thought that she could have killed her own daughter.

Now this story, about a boy who has been missing for 10 years, and NO ONE REPORTED HIM MISSING?!?!?

Police said yesterday that they have begun searching for a boy who disappeared a decade ago when he was about 12 years old. Adam Herrman lived in Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park in Towanda with his adoptive parents Doug and Valerie Herrman when he went missing in 1999.

From Fox News:

But the biggest mystery may be why no one reported him missing until nearly a decade later.

The search for Adam — who would be 21 if he is still alive — has confounded authorities and left family members regretting that they did not do more when they noticed he was gone.

His disappearance finally came to light last week when authorities — acting on a tip to the Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit — searched the empty lot in Towanda where the family’s mobile home once stood.

Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy has refused to say much about the case except that no human remains were found during the search.

The publicity around the search has spawned a flood of tips to the sheriff’s office. More tips are expected following Tuesday’s release by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of a computer-enhanced photo showing what Adam might look like today.

No charges have been brought against his adoptive parents, Valerie and Doug Herrman. Murphy said consideration of any charges would wait so officials can concentrate on the search for Adam. Investigators plan to scour the banks of the Whitewater River just west of the mobile home park on Saturday.

Police Find Body in SUV; Believed to Be Body of Jennifer Hudson’s Nephew

October 27, 2008

Police searching for Jennifer Hudson’s missing 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, found the body of a young black boy in an SUV earlier today. An identity of the body has not yet been confirmed but sources believe that it may be King’s body. This is truly a sad story and I pray for the family who has lost loved ones.

From the Associated Press:

Hudson’s nephew, Julian King, hasn’t been seen since Friday, when Hudson’s mother and brother were found shot to death in their home. Police issued an Amber Alert for Julian, who lived in the home, and were looking for a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban.

The body was found in a white SUV on the city’s West Side Monday. It was towed away with the body still inside. Police refused to comment.

Hudson, who won an Academy Award in 2007 for her role in “Dreamgirls,” was in Chicago during the weekend. The medical examiner’s office confirmed Hudson identified the bodies of her mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and 29-year-old brother, Jason Hudson. The deaths were ruled homicides.

Hudson, 27, offered a $100,000 reward for the safe return of her nephew, who is the son of her sister, Julia Hudson.

The Amber Alert listed William Balfour, the estranged husband of Julia Hudson, as a suspect in a “double homicide investigation.” Balfour, 27, has not been charged in the slayings. He is not the boy’s father.

Police said they did not have a motive for the killings but called the case “domestic related.”

Balfour was taken into custody Friday by Chicago police for questioning in the killings. On Sunday, he was transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections “based on his active parole violation unrelated to this investigation.”

Records from the Corrections Department show Balfour is on parole and spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle.

From Fox News:

MyFOXChicago is reporting that police located the SUV, which is believed to be the getaway vehicle driven by William Balfour, a suspect in the murders of the family members of Oscar-winning actress and singer Hudson.

While Chicago police have not yet confirmed whether the vehicle is in fact the white Chevy Suburban that police have been searching for, MyFOXChicago is reporting that the license plates match the Amber Alert issued after Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew Julian King was reported missing after the murders Friday.
