Casey Anthony: Focus of the ’48 Hours Mystery’ Episode

October 15, 2009

A little more information about the upcoming episode of ’48 Hours Mystery’, scheduled to air this weekend.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

A stranger killed Caylee Anthony, her mother’s defense team says in an interview to air this weekend on 48 Hours Mystery.

Duct tape found with the child’s remains has DNA on it that belongs to an unidentified person, and that evidently is key to the defense’s approach. Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, is charged with first-degree murder in her child’s death last year.

“Somebody else is the killer of this child,” attorney Linda Kenney Baden tells CBS’ Maggie Rodriguez.

The program will air at 10 p.m. Saturday on WKMG-Channel 6. Those questioned include George and Cindy Anthony, Casey’s parents; Jesse Grund, Casey’s former fiancé; and Zenaida Gonzalez, who is suing Casey for defamation.

The interview with defense lawyers Kenney Baden, Todd Macaluso and José Baez is the headline from the hour, Rodriguez said.

Casey Anthony: More on ’48 Hours Mystery’ Epidode

October 15, 2009

Thanks, (as always!) to Hal Boedeker for a great post this morning, updating readers on the upcoming 48 Hours Mystery episode focusing on the Casey Anthony case.

Sounds like there is going to be a lot of praise from Casey’s fiancee Jesse Grund towards Caylee as well as a lot of blasting of Casey.

I love a quote from Grund surrounding the ending of their engagement: “She claimed I loved Caylee more than I loved her.”

Should be fun! 🙂

Please follow the link below for the full posting. And be sure to check out Hal’s blog! You won’t be disappointed!

From The TV Guy:

Jesse Grund praises Caylee Anthony and blasts her mother, former fiancee Casey Anthony, in an interview to air this weekend on “48 Hours Mystery.”

The CBS newsmagazine shared excerpts from some interviews in the hour report. Maggie Rodriguez of “The Early Show” is the reporter. The program airs at 10 p.m. Saturday on WKMG-Channel 6.

“Caylee was a really easy baby, I gotta be honest … so wonderful,” Grund says. “I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her.”

Casey Anthony told Grund that he was Caylee’s father, but a paternity test proved otherwise. (Casey Anthony is shown conferring with attorney Jose Baez in this August photo by Red Huber of the Sentinel.)

“It said zero-percent probability that I was the biological father,” Grund says. “It was relieving and heartbreaking at the same time. I didn’t want anybody to be that little girl’s father except for me.”

Casey Anthony: State to Seek Death Penalty

April 13, 2009

In a dramatic reversal, the Florida state attorney’s office announced Monday it will seek the death penalty against Casey Anthony.

Wow! And Baez may not be able to handle the case because he is not certified to defend capital punishment cases.

Big news! Thoughts?

From the Associated Press:

Florida prosecutors plan to seek to the death penalty against Casey Anthony, who is charged with murdering her young daughter whose remains were found in swampy woods months after she was reported missing.

Anthony claimed that Caylee was kidnapped and has pleaded not guilty. Her trial has been tentatively set for October.

Prosecutors filed papers of intent to seek to have Anthony executed if she is convicted of first-degree murder, said Danielle Tavernier, a spokeswoman for the State Attorney’s Office in Orlando.

Anthony’s legal team already has lawyers who are qualified to defend death penalty cases and are prepared “for a vigorous defense,” said Marti Mackenzie, a spokeswoman for Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez.

“This is not a death penalty case,” Mackenzie said. “We will do whatever is necessary to defend Casey Anthony from the state trying to take her life.”

From CNN:

The state had previously said it would not ask for the death sentence for Anthony.

The development could have a major impact on how the case plays out at trial, including whether defense attorney Jose Baez can stay on the case.

Baez has not been certified by the court to defend capital punishment cases.

Prosecutors announced their change in strategy in a letter of intent. Read the letter of intent (pdf)

Meanwhile, Anthony’s defense filed a motion on Friday with Orange County Circuit Court, seeking more phone records from a dozen people involved in the case. The motion asks for any and all records for “phone calls, text messages, P2P communications, Internet usage, WAP usage, and cell tower pings.”

The defense wants records from the defendant’s parents, George and Cindy Anthony; her former fiancé, Jesse Grund; her brother, Lee Anthony; a friend, Amy Huizenga; and Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee’s remains in December of last year.
