Casey Anthony Wins Partial Victory Against Texas EquuSearch

July 6, 2013

Casey Anthony has won a partial victory in bankruptcy court when a judge granted her request to dismiss charges brought against her by TexasEquuSearch, the company who helped search for her daughter Caylee back in 2008. The judge has given Texas EquuSearch 21 days to file another claim.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Texas EquuSearch claims it wasted more than $100,000 searching for Caylee Marie Anthony in 2008, a debt, they say, Casey Anthony’s bankruptcy shouldn’t wipe clean.

EquuSearch was suing Anthony in state court before she declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year, effectively halting the lawsuit. The search group says she wasted its time and money with a fruitless search for 2-year-old Caylee, who Anthony knew was actually dead.

But Anthony’s bankruptcy attorney, David Schrader, said Texas EquuSearch leaders proceeded with searches knowing Anthony had been charged with lying to law enforcement and murder. Texas EquuSearch also relied on information from Anthony’s parents.

Casey Anthony Appealing Conviction

January 8, 2013

Lawyers for Casey Anthony are back in court in Florida today to appeal her four convictions for lying to the authorities. It seems that Anthony’s lawyers will argue that each of the lies should have been considered one offense.

More details at the link below.

From Reuters:

Anthony, 26, was convicted of lying to lead detective Yuri Melich when she said she left Caylee on or about June 9, 2008, with a nanny named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez at the Sawgrass Apartments in Orlando.

She was also convicted of lying when she claimed she was employed at Universal Studios, had told Universal co-workers that Caylee was missing, and later received a phone call from Caylee.

Casey Anthony: Prosecutors Admit They Missed Key Evidence

November 21, 2012

According to reports, prosecutors and investigators in the murder case against Casey Anthony admitted they overlooked a smoking gun that could have put the nail in the coffin of the accused murderer.

From the New York Post:

But now for the first time, Florida authorities are confirming the remarkable blunder.

“There was an oversight,” said Orange County [Fla.] Sheriff’s Capt. Angelo Nieves. “This has been a learning experience for investigators as well.”

Trial prosecutor Jeff Ashton said proof of the macabre web search could have been a crucial weapon. The defense had claimed Caylee accidentally drowned and Casey Anthony’s dad George Anthony ditched the body.

“It’s just a shame we didn’t have it,” Ashton said. “This certainly would have put the accidental death claim in serious question.”

Jose Baez: Casey’s Car Smelled Like a Dead Body

July 4, 2012

It seems that Jose Baez has released a “tell-all” book about the Casey Anthony trial. The book,  “Presumed Guilty: Casey Anthony: The Inside Story”, focuses on his experience defending Anthony, who was presumed guilty by both the media and the public.

In the book, Baez claims that when he first examined the trunk of his client’s car, it “smelled like a dead body”.

From Gather.com:

“I could smell something rotten,” he wrote. “I had been to a morgue before and my first impression was that this smelled like a dead body. I smelled something else, a chemical-like substance. If you took a good strong whiff, it almost hurt your nostrils. ‘Oh my God,’ I thought. ‘I’m going to have to talk to Casey about taking a plea.'”

Baez wasn’t the only person to say Anthony’s car smelled suspicious. When her dad George Anthony picked her car up from the impound lot, he said it smelled horrible.

“It smelled like something that you would never forget,” he said. He also admits to praying he wouldn’t find little Caylee Anthony’s body inside.

Even Casey Anthony’s mom Cindy Anthony told a 9-11 operator when frantically calling to report Caylee missing that “it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”

From Fox News:

Speaking to CNN’s Piers Morgan by telephone, Anthony said, “I’ve looked back at some of the interviews … in the way that I’ve come across. It’s horrible. It looks absolutely horrible.”

“I’m ashamed in many ways of the person that I was. Because even then, that wasn’t who I am.”

She said she was a “stupid kid” who lied to police because she did not trust them, but “I didn’t kill my daughter … she was my greatest accomplishment.”

Plane That Flew Casey Anthony Crashes; Kills Six

June 7, 2012

A plane that once flew Casey Anthony out of Orlando after she was released from jail (following her trial) crashed today, killing six, including four children.

From WFTV:

Ronald Bramlage, 45, was piloting the plane. His wife, Rebecca, 43, and their four children were also onboard.

The plane is the exact same one that Casey Anthony was in the night she took off from Orlando. It was owned by Anthony’s former attorney, Todd Macoluso. WFTV learned he might have sold it earlier this year.
