Casey Anthony Wins Partial Victory Against Texas EquuSearch

July 6, 2013

Casey Anthony has won a partial victory in bankruptcy court when a judge granted her request to dismiss charges brought against her by TexasEquuSearch, the company who helped search for her daughter Caylee back in 2008. The judge has given Texas EquuSearch 21 days to file another claim.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Texas EquuSearch claims it wasted more than $100,000 searching for Caylee Marie Anthony in 2008, a debt, they say, Casey Anthony’s bankruptcy shouldn’t wipe clean.

EquuSearch was suing Anthony in state court before she declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year, effectively halting the lawsuit. The search group says she wasted its time and money with a fruitless search for 2-year-old Caylee, who Anthony knew was actually dead.

But Anthony’s bankruptcy attorney, David Schrader, said Texas EquuSearch leaders proceeded with searches knowing Anthony had been charged with lying to law enforcement and murder. Texas EquuSearch also relied on information from Anthony’s parents.

Casey Anthony Found!

May 21, 2012

Casey Anthony has been flushed out of hiding in Florida. While Anthony has been in hiding for the 10 months since her trial, legal action has continued against her, and she must now return to an Orlando courtroom.

You got served!

From the Huffington Post:

Investigators located Anthony and staked out her new residence for several days while attempting to serve a subpoena relating to an ongoing defamation case, People magazine reported Monday night. The case stems from the initial investigation into the whereabouts of Anthony’s 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony claimed the girl was kidnapped by a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez, a woman she never knew, but who does exist.

Casey Anthony: How Much of an Obsession Has This Become?

June 17, 2011

It’s been talked about for years now. Did she or didn’t she do it? Will a jury find her guilty or will they acquit? What will be the final outcome?

So what about you? How often is this trial on your mind? Are you constantly watching on TV or waiting for the latest updates?

Do you consider yourself obsessed? CNN has a great article about this today on their website and an excerpt can be found below.

From CNN:

At Fields BMW in suburban Winter Park, no one has switched channels in the customer lounge since testimony began four weeks ago.

“I don’t think anybody’s brave enough to grab the remote,” said Whitney Lore, the cashier.

The drama sucked in Trevor Ball this week as he waited for his wife’s BMW to be serviced. He fired off a Casey update to her by text: The prosecution rests.

Half the people who turn on their TVs in Orlando during the daytime are watching the trial, says Steve Hyvonen, news director at WKMG, a CNN affiliate. That usually only happens here when a hurricane hits.

So it’s no surprise that all the local television stations have abandoned normal daytime programming to carry the trial live. Even the U.S. Open comes in second to Florida vs. Casey Anthony.

Casey Anthony: Jury Hears Her Interview with Police

June 2, 2011

Jurors today listened to to Casey Anthony’s hour-long interview with detectives the day after Caylee was reported missing back in 2008.

From the Associated Press:

Lead detective Yuri Melich took the stand again Thursday morning, on the eighth day of testimony in Anthony’s murder trial. The Orlando woman is accused of killing her daughter Caylee.

Anthony told detectives Caylee had called her a day earlier, saying, “Hi, Mommy,” before talking about books and shoes.

She also said during the interview that she would never be able to forgive herself.

“My mom flat out told me yesterday she will never be able to forgive me,” Casey Anthony said.

As Melich and another detective peppered her with questions, Anthony said she asked the child to let her talk to an adult, but the phone went dead.

Anthony, 25, insisted she was not lying when she said a baby sitter kidnapped Caylee on June 9, 2008.

Casey Anthony: Defendant Lied About Universal Studios Job

June 2, 2011

Leonard Turtora, assistant manager of loss prevention at Universal Studios, has testified that after he was contacted by authorities, he searched through the Universal Studios employee database and found that Casey Anthony had not worked there in years.

From CNN:

According to testimony, Anthony claimed to work as an event planner at Universal Studios until after Caylee was reported missing.

During the police investigation, lead detective Yuri Melich called Anthony and put her on a speakerphone with Turtora, who testified she insisted she worked there and gave a Thomas Manley as her supervisor. Manley also was not found in the database. During the call, Melich asked her if she was an event planner for marketing or entertainment, Turtora testified, and she said a little bit of both. “I knew that couldn’t be true,” Turtora said.

Eventually, Anthony was forced to own up to the lie after detectives brought her to Universal Studios and met Turtora there. She directed them to a building Turtora said he knew was not an events building.

“Melich began to look around and asked if we were in the events building,” Turtora said. “Ms. Anthony looked at me, put her hands in her back pocket and stated, ‘I don’t work here.'”

Casey Anthony: Defendant Lied About Boyfriend

June 2, 2011

During his testimony, Jeff Hopkins, an alleged “a wealthy suitor”, testified that while he knew Casey Anthony from middle school, her claims of dating him and his introducing her to Zenaida Gonzalez were not true.

From CNN:

Hopkins, 26, said his name wasn’t even Jeffrey Michael Hopkins — the name Anthony had given as a wealthy suitor living in Jacksonville, with a son named Zachary.

Anthony’s mother, Cindy Anthony, previously testified her daughter spoke often about Hopkins, describing him as a former coworker at Universal who had introduced her to Gonzalez, purportedly employed as a nanny for Casey Anthony’s 2-year-old daughter Caylee. The two began dating, Casey Anthony had claimed.

After Caylee went missing June 16, 2008, Casey Anthony stayed away from her parents’ house for weeks, telling her mother she and her daughter were spending time with Hopkins in Jacksonville, Florida, where he lived.

Casey Anthony: “Boobs” Take Center Stage…

June 1, 2011

I can’t remember the last time I used the word “boobs” in a headline of a post…if ever 🙂

Anyways…CNN ‘In Session’ anchor Vinnie Politan apparently forgot that his microphone was on during a live broadcast on Tuesday and in reference to accused murderer Casey Anthony, uttered the words “the only thing you are going to see are her boobs sticking out.”

D’oh! Here’s the video:

From the Daily Mail:

For the former attorney and journalist made the cardinal sin of broadcasting by forgetting his microphone was on during a live report.

On Tuesday, Politan was covering the high-profile trial of Casey Anthony, who is accused of murdering her two-year-old daughter and dumping her body in a swamp, when he made a rather crass comment about her ‘boobs’.

The comment was made during a particularly gruelling day-long testimony of Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother – in which she broke down several times as she described her daughter’s actions surrounding the disappearance of her child.
