Casey Anthony: Neighbor Claims She Borrowed Shovel

May 25, 2011

According to testimony today, Casey Anthony asked a neighbor to borrow a shovel two days after her daughter Caylee was last seen alive.

From the Associated Press:

Caylee was last seen on June 16, 2008. One of the grandparents’ neighbors, Brian Burner, testified that Anthony asked him June 18 if she could borrow a shovel to “dig up a bamboo root.” She returned the shovel about an hour later, he said.

Burner also said he remembered seeing Anthony’s white car backed into the garage on the afternoon of June 16.

Casey Anthony: Partying Was Frequent While Daughter Was Missing

May 25, 2011

As we had been led to believe, it appears that Casey Anthony was a carefree young woman who gave no hint that her daughter had disappeared. This is according to her former friends who testified today at her murder trial.

From Reuters:

“She seemed normal. Happy. Like everything was fine,” said Nathan Lezniewicz on the second day of testimony in Casey Anthony’s first-degree murder trial in Orlando.

Lezniewicz roomed at the time with Casey’s then-boyfriend Tony Lazzaro and two other young college men at an Orlando apartment.

Lezniewicz said he was at a local nightclub when Casey entered a “hot body” contest. Jurors saw a photograph of her and Lezniewicz grinning at the club.

“She was partying, having a good time,” testified Roy “Clint” House, another roommate.

House said Casey gave clothing and sales advice to “shot girls” who sold premium liquor by the shot glass at the club.

Casey began living at the apartment nearly full-time after Caylee’s death, the roommates said.

“When she started staying at the apartment on a regular basis, that’s when we stopped seeing Caylee,” House said.

Casey Anthony: Expert Believes She Must Take Stand

May 25, 2011

During opening statements yesterday in the trial of Casey Anthony, her defense lawyers claimed that her daughter accidentally drowned and her family covered it up.

So how is the defense going to explain all of this? According to one expert, this means that Casey MUST take the stand.

From the Associated Press:

“In Session” Correspondent Beth Karas was in court when the bombshell was dropped.

Karas said Casey Anthony will have to give her testimony — because she’s the only person who can tell the story the defense is offering.

“The scenario that her lead defense attorney, Jose Baez, painted of the death of Caylee — her father, George, finding Caylee dead in the swimming pool, as Casey came around the other side of the house in tears, can only be explained by Casey Anthony,” she said. “There’s no one else.”

Casey Anthony: Trial Enters Day Two

May 25, 2011

As day two began in the Casey Anthony trial, the former roommate of Casey Anthony’s ex-boyfriend, Anthony Lazzaro, took the stand. He said that he met Caylee Anthony about two or three times at his apartment in 2008, though she never spent the night there with her mother.

The prosecution also called another former roommate of Lazzaro’s, Nathan Lezniewicz, who also said he met Caylee a few times, but reaffirmed that the toddler never spent the night at his apartment when Casey did.

From Fox News:

Cameron Campana was the first witness called by prosecutors on Wednesday. Campana is a club promoter in Cleveland who was attending Full Sail University in Orlando during 2008.

From Central Florida News:

When Caylee wasn’t there with her mother, Campana said Casey told him she was with a nanny. But Casey never told him Caylee was missing.

Lezniewicz, also a Full Sail graduate, said Casey began staying overnight in the third week of June in 2008. That’s around the same time Caylee disappeared. He described Casey as “normal,” and she and Lazzaro got along well.

Both Lezniewicz and Campana told the prosecutor that Casey told them she was an event planner at Universal Orlando Resort, and even promised them tickets to the premiere of the Batman film “The Dark Knight” in 2008.
