Casey Anthony: FAMU Hires Jose Baez To Teach Law Students

January 23, 2009

According to WFTV, Jose Baez has been hired by FAMU law school to teach up-and-coming lawyers.

For those of you who do not like Mr. Baez, just imagine what he will be teaching his new students? Thoughts?

From WFTV:

Baez is not teaching freshmen, he’s teaching upper-level classes how to get ready for trial.

Jose Baez passed the bar exam just three years ago. He has already confused jurisdiction and botched a motion in the Casey Anthony case. Now, he’s teaching law students at FAMU.

“How’s it going so far?” WFTV reporter Sean Lavin asked FAMU College of Law Dean Leroy Pernell.

“I don’t know yet. We’ve only been in session since here for a couple weeks at best,” he said.

Baez is also under Florida Bar investigation over allegations he spread false statements about the prosecutors.

“If he’s being investigated by the Bar, there’s a reason why, and they’re supposed to be setting examples for us,” FAMU law student Chris Hancock said. The law school’s dean did not even know about the Bar investigation until Eyewitness News told him.

“Are you guys going to stay on top of it and see how it comes out and review it?” Lavin asked Pernell.

“Well, I think with any teacher or instructor, if there are matters that occur that would interfere with experience of students in course, we’ll monitor that and take appropriate steps,” he said.

Pernell said he will take no action until the investigation is over. That means Baez will keep teaching at FAMU and will earn $4,500 per semester.

Even though students were told not to talk to Eyewitness News, several said Baez has hired FAMU students to help him work on the Anthony case outside of the classroom.Eyewitness News was unable to reach Baez for comment.

Caylee Anthony’s Grandfather in Custody

January 23, 2009

My apologies. I neglected to update this information in my last post.

Since I’m in California, and not in Florida, I was not aware of the law which allows the state of Florida to hold people involuntarily pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Very interesting developments this morning. What does everyone think about today’s news?

From WFLX:

The grandfather of Caylee Anthony is now in custody.

George Anthony was taken into custody early Friday morning under Florida’s Baker Act which allows the state to hold people involuntarily pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Anthony was reported missing from his Orlando home Thursday. His family became concerned after he reportedly sent suicidal text messages.

From NBC:

The grandfather of slain Florida toddler Caylee Anthony was in stable condition Friday after he was taken to a hospital over concerns that he might be suicidal.

A spokeswoman for the Daytona Beach hospital said George Anthony would be admitted to a hospital room after being observed. Anthony was found early Friday at a Daytona Beach hotel after he was reported missing for several hours.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood told reporters that Anthony sent text messages to family members indicating he “wanted to end his life.”

Police also found a “five to six page suicide letter,” he had written, a police spokesman told NBC News. Anthony had not tried to harm himself, the spokesman said.

Anthony’s daughter, Casey Anthony, has been charged with killing Caylee. The child was not reported missing for nearly a month after she vanished.

Casey Anthony’s Father Hospitalized…Reported To Be Suicidal

January 23, 2009

A little more information this morning about the continuing saga that is the Anthony family.

George Anthony is in stable condition this morning after he was taken to a hospital over concerns that he might be suicidal.

I can understand what George must be going through. The murder of his granddaughter. His daughter accused of her murder. Does he know something about it? Is the guilt getting to him?

This must be a horrible time for him and I’m sure that he is feeling the stress.

Thoughts?

From the Associated Press:

A spokeswoman for the Daytona Beach hospital says George Anthony will be admitted to a hospital room after being observed. Anthony was found early Friday at a Daytona Beach hotel after he was reported missing for several hours.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood told reporters that Anthony sent text messages to family members indicating he “wanted to end his life.”

Anthony’s daughter, Casey Anthony, has been charged with killing Caylee. The child wasn’t reported missing for nearly a month after she vanished.

From Fox News:

Orange County officers tracked pings from Anthony’s cell phone to a location near Bethune Point. He was found at the Hawaii Motel on South Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.

Anthony sent text messages to his family saying he wanted to end his life, according to Daytona Beach Police Chief Michael Chitwood. Chitwood said Anthony told him there was a lot of pressure on him and he needed to think.

He was involuntarily taken to Halifax Hospital by the police chief and is being evaluated. He hasn’t been admitted as a patient.

No drugs or weapons were found in Anthony’s hotel room early Friday morning. He had other items with him at the hotel, but details weren’t released. Those items are being turned over to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

“We do know George Anthony is saying, ‘I don’t want to live anymore,'” Chitwood said.

Documents made public on Wednesday suggest Casey Anthony once joked about drugging Caylee.

A former boyfriend, Ricardo Morales, told investigators she had made jokes about giving Caylee baby medicine to put her to sleep, according to MyFOXOrlando.com. But he also said she seemed to have a normal relationship with her daughter.

From the Criminal Report Daily:

George Anthony, father of 22-year-old Casey Anthony and grandfather of now deceased 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, was escorted to a hospital by police early this morning after he allegedly sent suicidal text messages to family members.

Anthony was reported missing yesterday, when he failed to show up for a meeting with his attorney. Later that day, he made contact with family members via text messages, in which he reportedly indicated that he wanted to “end his own life.”

Investigators were able to trace pings from Anthony’s cell phone to the Bethune Point area. His vehicle was located at the Hawaiian Inn, a motel near Daytona Beach, at about 2:30 a.m. this morning.

According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood, Anthony was upset and stated that he was under a lot of pressure.

“We do know George Anthony is saying I don’t want to live anymore,” Chitwood told Fox News.

Chitwood personally transported Anthony to Halifax Hospital, where he was Baker Acted – involuntarily admitted – for an evaluation.

Tim Miller, founder and director of Texas EquuSearch, was notified of Anthony’s disappearance last night and was preparing to fly to Orlando to help in the search when he received the news that Anthony had been located.

“I know what I went through with the death of my daughter Laura, which doesn’t even compare to what George is going through,” Miller told Investigation Discovery. “George has my full support, and whatever he needs from me, I am there for him.  Texas EquuSearch will continue to hold George up in prayer as he goes through this most difficult time.”

Casey Anthony: Documents Show Casey Joked About Drugging Caylee

January 22, 2009

A section of the newly released documents in the Casey Anthony case have shown that Casey once joked about drugging her daughter, Caylee, in her sleep.

From Fox News:

The documents, which were made public on Wednesday, include reports on police interviews with a former boyfriend of the girl’s mother, Casey Anthony, 22, who is charged with killing the toddler.

The former boyfriend, Ricardo Morales, told investigators that Anthony had joked about administering baby medicine to put Caylee asleep, though he also said it appeared that Casey had a normal relationship with her daughter, according to MyFOXOrlando.com’s report on its review of the new documents.

Detectives also questioned Morales about chloroform, traces of which were found in the trunk of Anthony’s car during forensic testing, MyFOXOrlando.com reports.

The state attorney’s office reports also contained text messages from several of Anthony’s friends indicating surprise that she had never mentioned that her daughter was missing for a month before authorities were contacted.

“Y wouldn’t u tell me of all people?” former boyfriend Anthony Lazzaro wrote, according to the reports. “Why would you lie to me thinking she was fine and with your nanny?”

Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, declined to comment on the documents, MyFOXOrlando.com reports.

Caylee Anthony was 2 years old when she disappeared in June, but she wasn’t reported missing until a month later, by Casey Anthony’s parents. The girl’s body was found in December in a wooded area by the family’s Orlando home by a utility worker.

The documents released Wednesday indicate that the girl was placed in a laundry hamper bag and had silver duct tape around her mouth. The documents – more than 300 pages — include reports from police and crime scene investigators, FBI crime lab reports and transcripts of 911 calls placed by the meter reader who found the girl’s remains.

From WPEC:

Investigators are mulling over text messages sent from a one-time boyfriend of Casey Anthony.

Tony Lazaro texts were sent the morning after Casey’s mother called 911 to report Caylee missing.

That was a month after she was last seen.

The texts say:

“Why wouldn’t you tell me of all people? I was your boyfriend that cares about you and your daughter.”

“Doesn’t make sense to me. Why would you lie to me thinking she was fine and with your nanny?”

Police say Lazaro was one of the people expressing surprise that Casey Anthony never mentioned her daughter was missing.

Police Search Woods for a Fourth Day Looking for Caylee Anthony Clues

December 14, 2008

Although they have not said whether or not they have found any additonal evidence, it appears that what they have found points towards the remains belonging to little Caylee. DNA results are expected sometime this week.

From the Associated Press:

As detectives enter their fourth day of searching a wooded area for clues in the case of a missing toddler, they’re tight-lipped on whether any more evidence has been found.

On Thursday, a utility worker found a child’s skull less than a half-mile from the Orlando home of Caylee Anthony, who was two when she went missing in June.

Her mother, Casey Anthony, waited a month to report her daughter missing and has been charged with murder.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and the FBI are still combing the area where the skull was found. Orange Sheriff’s spokesman Carlos Padilla wouldn’t say what else has been recovered.

On Saturday, Anthony’s lawyer and his forensic investigators conducted their own investigation at the Anthony family home.
