Casey Anthony: The Prosecution Rests…

June 15, 2011

Prosecutors rested their first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony today. So…how did they do? Have they met their burden of proof?

Note: Once again…for those of you who are still asking for information on the original crime scene photos, you can find links here. I do not have a photo of the remains/skull.

From the Associated Press:

Casey Anthony’s attorneys are expected to call their first witness Thursday, assuming the judge denies a standard defense motion asking for the case to be thrown out. The defense has claimed the toddler was not slain but instead drowned in her grandparents’ pool.

Over several weeks of testimony, prosecutors have laid out their case that Caylee Anthony was suffocated with duct tape, though a medical examiner testified the cause of death was undetermined. Only the “manner of death” was ruled to be homicide. If convicted, she faces the death penalty.

Prosecutors have built their mostly circumstantial case on 25-year-old Casey Anthony’s conduct and the lies she told about her daughter’s whereabouts.

Casey Anthony: Heart Stickers and a Crying Grandmother

June 14, 2011

Cindy Anthony had to wipe away tears earlier today as she saw a picture of her granddaughter, Caylee Anthony, wearing a pink shirt that would later be found in tatters near her skeletal remains.

A number of gruesome details have repeatedly been shown over the past couple of weeks including grim photos which were introduced as evidence. Those photos have included  Caylee’s hair, bones fragments, and a reconstructed skeleton of Caylee’s body.

From ABC News:

Cindy Anthony is one of the prosecution’s last witnesses as they draw nearer to wrapping up their case. Cindy Anthony said that she had never seen the pink shirt that reads “Big Trouble Comes Small” until she was asked by police about a photo showing Caylee wearing the shirt.

Only small shreds of the shirt survived during the the six months between the time that Caylee was last seen in June 2008 and when her body was found a short distance from the Anthony home in December 2008.

In addition, Cindy Anthony told the court that she noticed in May 2008 that Caylee’s Winnie the Pooh blanket was missing. Bits of a Winnie the Pooh blanket was found with Caylee’s remains.

Casey Anthony: Trial Resumes Today

June 14, 2011

Casey Anthony’s murder trial will resume in today with the prosecution close to wrapping up their evidence presentation.

Note: For those of you who are still asking for information on the original crime scene photos, you can find links here. Please note that I do not have a photo of the remains/skull.

From the Associated Press:

Court recessed early on Monday with the state calling only a pair of FBI forensics experts. The reason for the early dismissal was because the prosecution’s next witness isn’t scheduled to arrive in town until early Tuesday afternoon. State attorneys say they’re ahead of schedule and the defense could be able to call its first witness Wednesday.

Casey Anthony: Let the Fights Begin!

June 10, 2011

It seems that police outside the Orlando courtroom had to break up a fight among people gathering for a chance to watch the Casey Anthony murder trial early this morning.

From the Associated Press:

More than 100 people were gathered near the courthouse this morning, some arriving before 1 a.m., when some reportedly tried to cut in line.

As people ran to the courthouse, which allows potential court spectators to officially line up at 5:30 a.m., a woman was knocked down. She was later taken away in an ambulance. Police were called and removed three people, reports CBS affiliate WKMG

Only the first 50 in line are permitted to watch the murder trial from inside the courtroom.

Casey Anthony: Defendant Ill After Caylee Skull Pictures Shown; Trial Recesses Early

June 9, 2011

Casey Anthony had to be removed from court today after appearing ill as photos of her 2-year-old daughter’s skull were displayed to jurors and the rest of the courtroom.

Anthony did not look up as photos were shown, but while the photos were displayed, they were also described in graphic detail.

Note: If you are looking for original crime scene photos, you can find links here. Please note that I do not have photos of the remains/skull.

From Reuters:

In one particularly stark and close-up photograph displayed on the court’s nearly two dozen monitors and computer screens, Caylee’s skull — with empty eye sockets and silver duct tape covering its nose and mouth like a mask — seemed to stare out at the courtroom.

“Miss Anthony is ill. We’re recessing for the day,” Judge Belvin Perry announced at 3:30 p.m.

From CNN:

After the jurors left, Perry spoke to members of the media in the courtroom, saying that Anthony was ill and that neither the prosecution nor the defense had any comment on the matter. The judge asked reporters not to question either side about it. The details of Anthony’s illness were not given.

During a short break before the announcement, Anthony drank a bottle of water quietly as attorneys spoke together and went back to Perry’s chambers, according to In Session’s Michael Christian. She was escorted out of the courtroom during the break, then brought back in, but lay her head down on her arms at the defense table. She did not stand as the jurors left the courtroom.

Casey Anthony: Expect Pictures of Caylee’s Remains

June 9, 2011

Note: If you are looking for original crime scene photos, you can find links here. Please note that I do not have (and wouldn’t post if I did have) a photo of the remains/skull.

It does appear that pictures of Caylee Anthony’s remains will be on display during the trial of her mother, accused murderer Casey Anthony.

UPDATE: Photos of Caylee Anthony’s skull were on display in the courtroom.

From ABC News:

The testimony of Lee Anthony came moments before the judge warned court spectators that grim photos of Caylee Anthony’s decomposed body would be entered as evidence and would be viewed by the court.

Caylee’s remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home in December 2008. Today, jurors listened to the 911 recording that reported the discovery of a human skull in a wooded area near the Anthony’s family home. That skull would turn out to be part of Caylee’s remains.

The skull was found by meter reader, Roy Kronk. Legal experts believe the defense will attempt to villify Kronk.
