Casey Anthony: Owes State of Florida Nearly $100,000

Judge Belvin Perry has ruled that Casey Anthony must repay authorities for nearly $100,000 in costs incurred during the investigation of her daughter Caylee’s disappearance.

From CNN:

The total cost of the investigation and Anthony’s prosecution on murder charges was estimated at around a half million dollars, but defense attorneys argued it was unfair to expect her to reimburse all of that because she was ultimately only convicted on four counts of lying to police.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney’s Office, Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation and Florida Department of Law Enforcement submitted documents to the court detailing expenses incurred between July 15, 2008 when Caylee was reported missing and December 19, 2008 when her remains were identified. Those figures totaled more than $516,000.

Prosecutors argued that, while Anthony was only convicted for the lies, those lies were “inextricably intertwined” with the rest of the investigation. In his ruling, Judge Belvin Perry stated that under Florida law Anthony can only be taxed for costs that were “reasonably necessary” to prove the charges for which she was convicted.

I mentioned this on another Post, and, again, Casey gets off with a mere Slap on the Wrist. So WHAT it was only 4 Counts of Lying to Authorities… ForGET the NUMBER— The amount of HOURS, DAYS, WEEKS, and MONTHS each and every one of those individuals SPENT on her Lies is what should be considered! I feel really bad for everyone who has to accept this pathetic Deduction, and if I were among the Taxpayers that this entire Case affected, I think I would start a Protest and a Petition to change the Law.

Our entire legal system needs looking into…………it’s upside down in many places.
I don’t see anyone on the horizon strong enough to battle it……. most people are unaware of the politics attached to it all. There is always some bastard making a zillion bucks off the system. If you rock the boat it gets you in a very precarious position.
