Casey Anthony Found NOT Guilty of First Degree Murder

We can no longer use the term “accused murderer” when referencing Casey Anthony.

After following this case for so long, we finally have a verdict and it comes as a surprise to me and I’m sure it will to most of you: NOT guilty…

I do want to clarify that the Not Guilty verdict is for the three main charges of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and manslaughter. Anthony was found guilty for providing false information to police officers.

Before I continue, do you have any thoughts? I for one am somewhat speechless, but not completely surprised by today’s verdict. When you have a trial by jury, surprising verdicts can, and have come back.

Having sat on a jury numerous times, I know how difficult it is to come to a unanimous verdict and when there is ANY reasonable doubt, a jury can come to a verdict such as this. I just hope that following the verdict, there is no celebrating on the behalf of the defense. I know that there should be relief on their client’s end, but we must remember that a little girl died and there is no need for celebration…

The jury, which consisted of seven women and five men worked through much of the 4th of July weekend, hearing closing arguments Sunday and Monday morning and  began deliberating for six hours that afternoon. According to CNN, the jury deliberated for 10 hours, 40 minutes and 33 seconds before reaching a verdict. They also sat through a total of 33 days of testimony and two days of closing arguments.

Anthony had been charged with seven counts – first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of providing false information to a law-enforcement officer in her daughters disappearance and death back in 2008.

So what do you think?

Speechless-Justice was not served today for baby Caylee. The day will come though~

  2. Kim Says:

I am sickened by the Jury……
I hope Casey Anthony is haunted everyday by what she did to her daughter Caylee.
Her lawyers know full well she did it & lied all the way thru the court-case.
We all know she did it & I hope all who helped her get away with murder are haunted also.

  3. GL Carpenter Says:

The fact the child ended up dead at all should be child neglect . The rest will be time served so she cannow bring charges against George and lee for child molestation . She might even get money out of it. What good will the movie be if George and lee didn’t end up in prison

  4. One Op Says:

The jury followed the lawful instructions that were read to them. There was not one charge against Casey that the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt in the death of Caylee other than Casey’s lying. If anyone thinks this was a wrong verdict I dare say the LE bungled from the beginning, especially by not following through with the first call Roy Kronk made to them. Had they done so and had the body been there where he found it in Dec 2008, the last time, they would have had all the evidence needed to bring a guilty verdict beyond a reasonable doubt if Casey murdered her child. I do not think the LE did their job. LE gave absolutely nothing substantial to the prosecution to prove Casey Anthony was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. IMO

  5. zelda Says:

well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. I was afraid of this. The reasonable doubt was always the plan…and it worked.

Baez’s little speech after the verdict was amazing too. He said that when he got home tonight and his child asked him what he did today he can say today he saved a life. Never a mention of the other gazillion lawyers standing right behind him. What a monumental ego.

I hope these are my last words on all of this………..gawd help all the little children out there who have parents who will now think they too can get away with murder.

I was among those who were shocked (and angry) yesterday–still am. But, nothing shocks me as much as the vast numbers of people waxing poetic about the beauty of our legal system and what an amazing job the jurors did. I don’t think they did such an amazing job at all. I know it’s a hard thing to do, I don’t know because I wasn’t sitting on the jury, yada, yada, yada. However, one of the legal pundits I saw yesterday said it best (sorry, can’t remember her name)…she said that this jury confused the concept of reasonable doubt with NO doubt. I really don’t get the viciousness that is being spewed against those of us daring to show a bit of emotion after the verdict. Save that for the child killer…I’m sure you all will be helping to investigate from here on out, figure out who that is, and at least bring THEM to justice…right?

  7. Honeydog Says:

ZELDA!! Where WERE you when the Verdict was read and I needed the SMELLING SALTS!!!!

    Pass the PROSAC………………………

  8. Sherry Says:

    Well said, wittybizgal, ITA~

Question: How is it that a juror who is an alternate couyld possibly know what the rest of the jurors think? Were they not seperated before deliberations?

  9. Honeydog Says:

I honestly felt Nauseous when I watched the Verdict come down. This is really way beyond Unbelievable and the realm of Understanding. Forget what we out here have learned and known and followed over the past three years— It’s Uncomprehending that twelve different Human Beings found NONE of the Evidence WHAT..SO..EVER, AT..ALL, to be SOMETHING.. to be ENOUGH.. to find her Guilty of SOME Responsibility for Caylee’s death. I’m inclined to agree with what the Feelings and Opinions of other Attorneys and Experts are expressing—

That the Jury “CREATED” their own “Doubt”, rather than it being “Actuality” or even “Reasonable”. In a brief Interview, one of the “Alternates” stated that he himself believed that it was a “Horrific Accident” which “they covered-up”. When asked why George would then allow his Daughter to sit in Jail for 3 Years for an “Accident”, he implied that he didn’t think he would. So, who is “THEY”. He claimed they “didn’t know how Caylee died”…

Didn’t The Defense PROVIDE that Information on Day ONE?? The guy sounded like he didn’t even know what he was saying. Other Experts are saying that “Common Sense” is “unfortunately not so Common” in our Justice System anymore. Still others agree that “the Jury got it Wrong, but the “System” worked”. Worked HOW?? So does the Toilet when you Flush it. Cheney Mason, in all his pompous Arrogance, said that this should be a “Lesson” to us all… It’s a Lesson alright— A Lesson on how to Degrade innocent people to save the Ass of the Guilty, a Lesson on how not to seek Justice for a Victim, and how not to Hope-for or Count-on the Truth.

Jose Baez stated that “there are no Winners in this Case”… I beg your PARDON? Yes, he “saved a Life today”, as he said. So, who saved CAYLEE’s? Casey knew damn-well that her Daughter was Dead and lying in an Insect-filled Swamp, day after day, dark night after dark night, and the fact that she didn’t even tell the Police so that they could go get her, should have, in itself, been enough to put her away. After all, they believed it was an “Accident”.. they believed she WAS “Involved”.. they believed she Covered it up— Didn’t THAT speak SOME form of appropriate Punnishment from this Jury? I’m just sick to my Stomach that Casey will be moving-on with her “Beautiful Life”, being her same Conniving self, the same Menace to Society, and especially feeling that everything she did was proven— by the Example shown by the “Adults” around her— to be “Okay” and “Acceptable”. This is the “Lesson” SHE learned……

So, the Jurors refused to talk to anyone, and hopped on the Bus and “got outta Dodge”. I can’t help but wonder if the un-appealing Thought of having to stick-around for a “Penalty Phase” was a Tad-bit of a Factor in their quick Decision to Acquit on ALL the worst Charges….

As for The Defense… I know their Heads are swelled to the max, but, as far as I’m concerned, they really just “Lucked-out”. I hope they don’t think they Won due to any such descriptive words as “Fabulous”, “Brilliant”, “Skillful”, or “Impressive”. Having had the opportunity to observe what REAL “Precision” and “Masterful” “Lawyering” looks and sounds like in that of Jeff Ashton and Linda Drane Burdick, THEY are TRULY Incredible Attorneys, and, Hands-down, are the “Winner” in THAT Department. In MY Book, it couldn’t Ring more True— “It’s not whether you Win or Lose, it’s how you play the Game”— and all I can say is, WOW….

So.. it’s “over”, and those are my Thoughts… although, as I just glanced at the TV, the Cast of Characters in this Story are beginning to come out of the Woodwork (right now, Jesse Grund), and I saw earlier something about “Legal Action” by Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzales, as well as “Death Threats” pouring-in against George and Cindy, and, I have a Feeling that it’ll be ANOTHER 3 years before the Name “Casey Anthony” is even remotely done-with……

  10. Honeydog Says:

By the way, John, The Defense DID “Celebrate”… Big Time— “With Wives and Staff, Bottles of Champagne flowing, Smiles and Laughter and much Cheering and Applauding themselves when the Sound was turned-up on the TV Screen” in the Bar/Restaurant they all went to accross the Street from the Courthouse following the Verdict. Jean Casarez was the only Reporter allowed inside with them, and the above are her own Words, in addition to referring to the Scene as “a Party”….

I truly doubt we would have seen this type of Classless “Festivity” from The Prosecution, even if they had Won.

  11. zelda Says:

You said it all Honeydog……….and well I might add.
I am appalled at our society and how it has turned to “getting out of consequence” as a victory. In the end we turn everything over to”human beings”(the jury) to mete out justice.Relying on our innate humanity to come up with reasonable decisions on the fate of other human beings,,because nothing else out there has that “human” ability to make those decisions. This Jury Failed.
I cannot see the logic in this fiasco at all,,,,,,,,,,,none of it makes sense for the jury to come up with their decision,,,,,,,,,,I don’t care WHAT all those lawyers tried to do.
I am deeply ashamed at our system and those twelve people who made the worst choice of their lives. The ball ultimately fell in their court.

  12. IMC Says:

Was anyone to invited to the Baez defense team for the champagne celebration? Baez said , “no winners”, guess you can celebrate for not winning. Giving the finger to the press..kewl. That’s entirely professional after a murder case. Lies, Murder, Reasonable beyond a shadow of a doubt. I wonder what that is.

I would not want to meet her in the state she will find herself eventually. Crawling on her belly in her own slime of a life. She dishonored her family. Accusing George and Lee of heinous acts. Her ex fiance thinks of her as dead. Oh no, she is very much alive. Caylee is dead by whatever means. Casey is responsible.

The jury said they were sick to their stomach as they delivered the verdict…NOT GUILTY. Go live your life Ms. Anthony. But real american citizens will be watching you, and who knows one day they just may snap. Enjoy whatever scraps of a life you have left.

Crawl before your God and ask him to deliver you from the evil acts you have committed and insighted.

Just another plain old nobody, who happens to believe in America.

  13. zelda Says:

I HEAR YOU IMC……….there are millions out here who hear you. You are far from a “nobody”.

  14. luvanrs Says:

I was worried when the prosecution was able to prove that cindy lied and that she did not perform the computer searches. Unfortunately they did not show proof that Casey performed those searches. It was not Cindy, but it could have been anyone else. That left open a reasonable doubt area right there. But, I cannot believe that the jury did not convict her at least for felony child neglect!!! obviously she was murdered (no child dies of natural causes with duct tape on their face), where was her mother? Why did she not report her missing. Why was she out partying with a missing baby and not involving law inforcement, her parents or even her trusted friends. That alone should have jailed her for a long, long time.

This whole case makes me sick!!

  15. Kreuzer33 Says:

Just read about the celebration…not sure if I’d celebrate since a child is still dead.

  16. One Op Says:

They did not kill a child. They only went to the place where they went every day for lunch. Better than snickering behind your fist
in court when a child is dead, which just may have helped turn the jury off. Not saying it did, but if I had been there I can assure you in a court of law regarding the murder of a child it is no time to be smartass. Imo, Jeff Ashton lost the case for the prosecution. As simple as that.

  17. zelda Says:

    Of course you wouldn’t John…………

  18. zelda Says:

I am sickened with this outcome Honeydog………I thought I was going to fall down when I heard it.Unbelievable………I don’t care how dorky etc. etc. the lawyers on both sides were.that damn jury makes me sick. You mean to tell me not ONE of those twelve people saw through this crap??? Oh my gawd. AND they spent very little time talking about it ………my gawd.
I am now on prosac shmozac and abendigo……….what a load of crap.
    help me honeydoooooooooooooogggggggggggggg.

  19. Kreuzer33 Says:

True. I did see the video of Ashton getting a giggle during the case…they had their chance but didn’t get the job done. Simple as that. Now we have to wait until tomorrow to see what happens next…

  20. zelda Says:

I don’t care how the prosecution did,,,,OR the defense,,it was up to the jury,,,,,,,THEY didn’t do their job in my view.

  21. Honeydog Says:

Zelda, you know, I can believe that it was an “Accident”… I’ve said it more than once in our Discussions on these pages in the past… That I felt Caylee “Overdosed” on the Chloroform, and that Casey put the Duct Tape on her Face to make her Story of a “Kidnapping” appear more believable. But, that part isn’t all that important. What really tears me up and pissess me off the most, is that the Evidence implicating Casey WAS there, if the Jury had put the pieces of the Puzzle together. Bottom line, she was the ONLY one LYING for 31 Days. As The State pointed-out, “Guilty people LIE”. Forget that George or Cindy or even both may have Lied on the STAND— The Jury knew that it was CASEY who knew her Child was dead, and, beCAUSE she knew she was dead, she ALSO knew where she WAS all that time. Even if the Jury believed that Casey “Covered it up”, it STILL makes her GUILTY of DIRECT INVOLVEMENT WITH A CRIME, and she left Caylee LAY THERE and ROT. They KNEW this. So, okay, forGET “Premeditation”… But for GOD’S SAKE, to let her Walk-away FREE of EVERYTHING???? One of the Female Jurors released a Statement which is rather Disturbing, and is raising some Controversy— She said since they didn’t know the Crime, it was difficult to decide on the Punnishment. The “Punnishment” is not SUPPOSED to be the Jury’s CONCERN when they are trying to decide on a Verdict. That comes LATER. This Juror has also now given an Interview on “Good Morning America”, and stated, “If there had been other Charges to consider, they would have been able to make a Conviction”. DAMN!! Why didn’t someone THINK of that, but, I would think at least ONE of those Charges would fit in SOMEWHERE! I don’t know. All I know is, this Trial rendered NO “Truth” OR “Justice” for the Victim. As a Shocked and Angry Jesse Grund stated tonight, “All The Defense cared about was WINNING, at all Costs”. When I think of how Caylee has been Lost in all this, that Time will go on with NO one ever being held Responsible for her death, and how, when you KNOW who that person IS, you are supposed to feel “Satisfied” that they were simply “Found” Innocent, it is really truly hard to Accept.

  22. Honeydog Says:

This just in…. Juror #6 has said that he will only “Talk” for NO LESS THAN $50,000. The absence of Honor and the Greed for Fame and Fortune is already happening. This shit makes my Skin crawl…

(Prosecutor Marcia Clark, of O.J.’s Trial, just stated that it is “not unheard-of” for Jurors “not to Choose” the more “Serious” Charges in a High-Profile Case, so that they will be in “greater Demand” for “high-paying Interviews”, due to Public interest in “WHY” they didn’t Convict. If they Convict, the “Story will not be as Exciting”. She stated that this is what is so “Worrysome” within “the System”.. That it not only “Influences” the thinking of the Public who may later be called for “High-Profile” Jury Duty, but that, obviously, some of these Juror’s “Priorities”, with regard to the Job they are “supposed” to do, are “not in the right place”).

WELL. Imagine that. One more reason for lack of Faith and Trust in our Justice System. Like Politics and everything else, there is Crookedness there too. Not that I didn’t already think it…

  23. zelda Says:

OMG Honeydog……….all the crap that went through my mind as this trial was going on is true and even WORSE than I could imagine.I guess we are simply a corrupt society even to using the death of a child to “profit” from…….I am sick…………
As I kept saying this last three years, this case was a litmus test for our society.Well………….here it is in our face.I see it as a huge and fatal turning point in the United States.
    I am so ashamed……….ashamed of us.Oh my…….
My only hope is the thread of people like you and others who have spoken up on here. Thanks Honeydog………….

  24. Honeydog Says:

Hang IN there, Zelda. We may be fighting a difficult Battle, but we’re not “Quitters”… and it’s always worth it…
