Casey Anthony: Did Caylee Drown in Family Pool?

The defense team claims that Caylee Anthony drowned in the family’s swimming pool on June 16, 2008, a few weeks before she was reported missing.

From ABC News:

“How in the world can a mother wait 30 days before ever reporting her child missing, that’s insane, that’s bizarre..the answer is actually relatively simple. She never was missing. Caylee Anthony died on June 16, 2008 when she drowned in her family’s swimming pool,” said Jose Baez, Anthony’s defense attorney.

Anthony, 25, wept as defense attorney Baez described Anthony and her family.

Baez also claimed that Casey Anthony’s father, George Anthony, found the body and indicated that he helped dispose of the body.

“What makes this case unique…is the family that it happened to. You will hear stories about a family that is incredibly dysfunctional, you will hear about ugly things, secret things, things that people don’t speak about,” Baez said.

  1. Sherry Says:

Hell to the no! There is no proof that Cindy made that phone call to George about leaving the pool ladder up as far as I can recall. It is a very creative fairytail woven by Casey and friends.

    Its a sleazy defense~

  2. offthecuff Says:

Yeah, I agree, Sherry. I thought the defense was complaining about Prosecution’s LACK of evidence, yet they throw a bunch of made-up stuff out there as fact.

The defense also complains about all this emotional stuff that the Prosecution is playing on, but he turns around and wrings tears out on sexual abuse.

I don’t know where they get the date of the 17th for this ladder-thing when the co-workers were vague when these complaints were made.

His premise that “Caylee was never missing” because George and Casey knew where she was??? I’m sorry, but that still means she’s missing…especially if she is dead, her body is hidden, and all those who care for her wonder where she is!! Is he trying to put out the fire and say nothing was wrong for 31 days because “caylee wasn’t missing?”

Is Casey required to take the stand to support Baez” story?

  3. offthecuff Says:

So, Casey rather stay in jail for 3 years than make a statement about an accident? She had to wait for a trial? This is the best Baez can do for her?

  4. […] pool on June 16, 2008. Casey states that the death was nothing more than a tragic accident. MoreCaylee Anthony – Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney said in court today that Caylee drowned in the family […]

  5. zelda Says:

This is another elaborate lie……my’s taken the three years in jail to get this story down pat.casey takes bits and pieces and weaves fantastic lies………Let’s get george on the stand.I think he will break.

  6. Honeydog Says:

NOPE. I might have believed it THREE YEARS AGO. TOO LATE MR. BAEZ. Yes, this is the “Best” he can do. And it STINKS of LIES and DECEPTION. Yeah Right… Like George— having been a Police Officer TRAINED in “CPR”— would not have performed it right then and there.. and like he would not have rushed in the House and called 9-1-1 ANYway in the blink of an Eye.. and like he would have any reason whatsoever to “Cover-up” a misfortunate “Accident”.. and like he would REALLY “Help” Casey get rid of Caylee’s Body— his own little Grand-daughter whom he Adored— so that Cindy wouldn’t YELL at her…….. MY GOD! This puts that Epic Movie, “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, to shame.

  7. DeeDee Says:

The story makes no sense at all. Children drown in pools every summer. Most of those drownings could have been prevented by closing a gate, keeping a child in their own yard, or pulling up a ladder. Parents make mistakes, some with dire consequences. If it had happened the way she said why would her father have thought there needed to be a coverup? It was an accident pure and simple. (that is if it had happened that way) Even parents who leave their child in a bathtub seldom are prosecuted when the child drowns. As for the accusations of abuse who knows but I don’t think that has anything to do with Casey killing her child.

  8. Honeydog Says:

*DeeDee*, funny you should say that last Sentence…
A current Judge and three Attorneys pointed-out the exact same thing on TV tonight. I have to agree.

  9. zelda Says:

    Me too………..

  10. luvanrs Says:

IF Caylee had accidentally drowned…why wrap duct tape around her face, double bag her and then throw her in the woods??? Makes no sense

  11. Honeydog Says:

    You got it *luvanrs*.

  12. zelda Says:

That’s huge point luvanrs. If you get Waaaaaaay back from all the red herrings,,,,,,,,,,and just follow the logic, it paints a pretty clear picture of what happened in my opinion.

  13. Anonymous Says:

Casey does not seem the type who would go to jail to protect her father! If Caylee drowned in the pool and it was an accident……why would Casey keep quiet? Why didn’t she go to the police/anyone and say the baby drowned? If the baby drowned, why was she buried? Why was she making up stories about a nanny? There doesn’t seem to be any love lost between Casey and her parents, wouldn’t she have enjoyed ‘throwing her father under the bus’?

  14. Honeydog Says:

It all really IS “Common Sense”, isn’t it. What exactly happened, we may never know, but for the many obvious Reasons, there is no one else out there responsible for Caylee’s death. C

  15. Tom Says:

What I can’t fathom is… How can people be so blind as to believe the “duct tape around the mouth” theory? Supposedly, the adhesive is SOOOO good to have stayed on the flesh…then magically stick to the skull bone and hair (while through wicked environmental conditions), then somehow manages to stay and stick to the skull and hair mat, even though there’s no place for the hair roots to attach to…which means, the hair wasn’t attached to anything. And even better, with all this super adhesives ability, there’s NO DNA on the tape? Come on…use some common sense. Even if you’re not scientifically inclined to understand basic physics, this isn’t going to happen. Period. Thank God, the jury also knew that this was a ridiculous piece of evidence.

No chloroform detected in the marrow? No “84” searches for chloroform? Grandpa tries to ‘off himself’ after the body is found? The grandpa???? How often do you hear about grandparents taking the loss of a grandchild so hard that they commit suicide? Yet, Georgie finds that while searching for Caylee, it might be a good time for an affair?

Egads …quit thinking like Nancy Grace and use some common sense! Perhaps one day, George will confess and there may be some justice … but justice isn’t served by killing Caylee’s mom.

  16. One Op Says:

Tom, good point, I have always understood that about a month after death, hair, nails and teeth will fall out. it puzzles me as to why it was so positive the duct tape was over Caylee’s mouth and nose when it could have been used to tape closed the bags she was in and only in deterioration of the body did it end up in any position to speculate that it was used to murder Caylee. Casey’s behavior was more against her than any positive evidence that she
    murdered her child.

I ABSOLUTELY believe that Casey used Chloroform to “Sedate”/put Caylee to Sleep. First: You can Bet there’s something more to Rick Morales’s Web Site Posting (“Win her over with Chloroform”) than his simple “I thought it was Funny” Explanation. Second: He Testified that Casey “had a hard time getting Caylee to go to Sleep”— and not just occasionally, but all the time. By their own and Friends admission, Casey’s Boyfriends were her top Priority when she was with them, that she wanted their Attention, and was often Jealous if they made alot of Fuss over Caylee. Plus, you can’t “do what you want to do” if your Child doesn’t want to go to Bed. Third: If Chloroform was not involved in any way, there would be no reason for Cindy to Lie and Cover-up for Casey about searching for it on the Computer— and that IS exactly what she did. Fourth: Casey’s friends told Authorities that “Caylee would sleep through ANYthing” during a Party, etc. Fifth: The female Bodyguard who stayed in The Anthony’s Home when Casey was first released from Jail stated from Day-One, and consistently throughout, that Casey knew ALL about Chloroform— brought the Word up herself. Sixth: Chloroform “Dissipates”— The Scientific Testimony confirmed that, and the teeny-tiny amount it would take to put a small Child “out” would be difficult, if not impossible, to Detect…… Regardless that a couple of these things were not brought-up during the Trial because of The Prosecution’s “Straight and Narrow” Strategy, the Information was obtained in Depositions. Put it all together. It’s way too Coincidental, and you WOULD have to be Blind not to see the Chloroform “Connection”.

As for the Duct Tape…. Not only did the Jury see Photos of the same, but the Forensic Experts pointed-out that the Tape WAS “Attached”— some to the Skull, and mostly to the “Hair Mat”, which, Yes, was no longer attached to the Skull, but there just the same. As well, Testimonies concluded that any DNA on the Tape would have certainly “Broken down” and would be more-than-likely “Gone” after the length of Time it was Exposed to the Elements— Hence, none found… but it doesn’t mean in any way, shape, or form that there was not DNA there to begin with. Human Hands had to have touched EVERYthing in and out of that Bag, but the Elements and the Passage of Time had ALOT to do with what was, and wasn’t, “Found”. Oh I believe that Casey put the Duct Tape on Caylee’s face alright, but AFTER she was already dead, in order to make her “Kidnapping” Story appear more True. That’s what “Kidnappers” often do to “Restrain” their Victims… Casey watched enough “Crime” Movies to know it. Even the two Movies she rented from “Blockbuster” the night of the day that Caylee is said to have died, were nearly identical in Content to the Characters and Descriptions she used in her own Story to Law Enforcement……

No, all this has nothing to do with thinking like Nancy Grace… All this IS the Common Sense. This was a strong Circumstantial Case with far-from-weak Evidence to which the Jury could not have been listening very well, and were simply not adequately Mentally Equipped to Analyze what they were supposed to, and make the Connections.

(And Tom… If you think for one minute that no “Grandfather” would feel like taking his own Life after the Injury or Loss of his Grand-Daughter, I am here to tell you “that’s how much YOU know”….
My Father, my Daughter and myself were in a near-fatal Car Accident when my Daughter was 5 Years-old, in which she sustained Traumatic Brain Injury. My Daughter was my Father’s WORLD, and it COMPLETELY Devastated him to see her go from Playing and Riding her little Bike one day, to being in a Coma and on Life Support the next, and YES— he WANTED to Die… he DIDN’T want to live anymore— so much so that he expressed his intention to kill himself and my Mother and I were on constant Guard. If we had not handled my Father’s fragile state of Mind with extreme Care and Support, I honestly think he would have done it. By the same Token, George Anthony was in that same Frame of Mind at that point in time— and NOT because he killed the precious Grand-Daughter he Adored— and if it had not been for the Police showing-up at the Motel, well, who knows. In any Case, you obviously don’t have a Clue how some Tragedies CAN affect a person’s Mind to the point of Desperation and extreme Action— YES… EVEN a “GRANDPA’S”).

I find it interesting that people’s points of view are so different. Every once in awhile someone comes along that changes all doubt,,and Honeydog you do just that. Your logic and obvious intelligence coupled with polite descriptions of others thin thinking are masterful.
All the “evidence” was there against casey anthony. All of it. Many have been executed on far less or at least got a life sentence or “something!”………..this jury was ,YES I WILL USE THE WORD>”stupid” in my view. They didn’t understand the job………….they took no time to even”think” about the case or consider the obvious.I blame this jury hands down.
Of course casey did just as Honeydog suggests,,,,,,,,,,the evidence WAS there in spades for anyone with an IQ over ten.
I am so sorry about your daughter’s accident and I understand the horror that would cause your family. Of course it would cause a person to question to go on living………….some people are deeply affected.
Unless you have gone through something like this there is no way to suppose anything.
This whole thing has been a knee jerker and a national shame for our legal system in my opinion. That smirk on old baez’s face makes me sick.Bastard.,what an ego maniac. And casey’s smile is beyond description and disgust and the farthest thing from a grieving mother to be had.My gawd that alone should have tipped off those brain dead jurists?????????????
    Thank you Honeydog……………..

  22. One Op Says:

Excellent comments Honeydog and Zelda. The one thing other than all the “evidence” presented would have been the fact that she went and picked up the movie about killing (can’t remember the name) right after Caylee’s death and enjoyed watching it. I could have given a guilty verdict on that alone. Honeydog, the fact that
Chloroform was only looked up once for about 30 seconds (not 84 times) and on the same date that RM had posted about chloroform on his facebook was clearly what deminished the chloroform theory
in my opinion. It is a fact that the prosecution made that error and did correct it but they did not make that correction until July 4th, too late to get the information to the jury. True, chloroform may have been used and I really hope it was used to knock her out before suffocating her, if that is what happened. I like to think that at least Caylee may have had less awareness and pain. Again, that particular movie selection was no coincidence, and I have not yet counted TL out of not knowing something more about all of it than he has stated. No way did he not know more, no way, IMO!
