Casey Anthony: Let the Madness Begin…

It appears that a jury will finally be sworn in later today in the murder trial of Casey Anthony.

Let the madness/circus begin!

From the Associated Press:

Tuesday concluded with 11 jurors that meet those criteria. Judge Belvin Perry said that a pool of about 20 prospective jurors remains that haven’t been through pretrial publicity and death penalty questioning.

Just before Perry was going to call for a dozen jurors be sworn-in, the defense used its sixth challenge on a previously retained woman that has a 2-year-old child, knocking the pool back down to 11.

That prompted a clearly frustrated Perry to remind the attorneys just before the lunch break that the pool of unquestioned jurors was dwindling.

“Both sides, you do realize these are the only jurors we have,” Perry said. “…I’m just letting you know that the well runs dry after this.”

I’m not sure about this. Jury Selection process came to a screeching Halt mid-afternoon, due to a
“Private Matter” involving Jose Baez. The Courtroom was Dismissed, and will pick-up again Thursday morning. Judge Perry said that “Opening Statements will commence on Monday, IF they have a Jury”. I know he really wants to get this Show on the Road (don’t we all), but also not a good idea to “rush” it, for the risk of ending-up with less than who and what is wanted/needed and “Ineffective” Counsel. They’re having alot of problems so far— and understandably so— but I hear it’s not uncommon to start and stop this process at different times throughout, and I would think that they have to do whatever is neccessary to ensure an overall good level of satisfaction for both sides, whether or not it’s in the timely fashion they intended. Hopefully, the Judge will continue to make the Right Calls, and this will go off however and whenever is best.

No doubt he challenged the woman with the 2 y.o. child. That woman would undoubtedly find Casey guilty – she could never imagine herself out partying while her own baby was missing, drugging her baby so she could party, etc. Don’t like Baez, but that was smart of him.

I understand there are 9 Women and 8 Men now Sworn-in as Jurors, and some of each do have Children. It will be interesting to see how these “Parents” fair.
