Osama Bin Laden Dead

The mastermind of the worst terrorist attack on American soil has been killed.

In a speech made this evening by President Barack Obama, U.S. special forces have killed Osama bin Laden.

Now…let’s see the photos…

From MSNBC:

“Justice has been done,” the president declared as crowds formed outside the White House to celebrate, singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “We Are the Champions,” NBC News reported.

Obama said the 54-year-old bin Laden, whom he called a terrorist “responsible for the murder of thousands of American men, women and children,” was killed in Pakistan earlier in the day after a firefight in a military operation that was based on U.S. intelligence. Other U.S. officials said one of bin Laden’s sons and two of his most trusted couriers also were killed, as was an unidentified woman who was used as a human shield.

I feel no jubilation. I cannot cheer for any kind of killing,,,,,,,,,,yes I know what he did.
It’s terrible anyway you slice it.

I am bothered by what I hear that this could have been done many months ago and it was decided this timing was right for the benefit of re-election. Not my personal claim, it is now being discussed on the news. President Obama made a speech tonight fully claiming the act as his when service men and women are the ones who risk their life. If it was a timely political move I am disappointed but not that Bin Laden has been stopped. However, his followers, they are apt to go into a frenzy and all hell break loose. Bin Laden declared a holy war against USA
which will not all of a sudden stopped and may get much worse.

Good riddance! I heard an expert on CNN last night say that bin Laden did not have anyone raised up to take his place. He strongly felt that the age of global terrorism is done for. I’m gonna believe him because we have not been attacked again since 9/11. Our government is doing something right! Sure, revenge may happen but I doubt much it will succeed. The only way for success would be to wait years when everyone finally has their guard down…

  4. zelda Says:

Yes OneOp……….I fear things may get worse.

My view is not pessimistic but rather realistic. Of course I hope for the best in any scenario.
While I can’t imagine a calm or defeated response from his followers I do hope they can be held in check.
This giant board game we all live on is always just an educated guess as far as the next move.

As an American living in this Country of ours, having the everlasting Memory of 911, and waiting for the day for the elusive BinLaden just to be FOUND, I can’t say that I don’t feel a sense of Empowerment for this accomplishment by our Country. The man was Wicked, had no right to do what he did to us, and— regardless of whether or not he had any additional “plans” for the future— it is the thought that he got away with that monumental horrific Act for so long.. continued to live.. bask in the Joy of the Death and Destruction he ordered and we suffered.. and play with our Heads for the last 10 years— which gives me great Satisfaction in knowing that he knew he was cornered like a Rat, that we were going to get our Revenge and get it good, and hopefully, that he knew he Lost, we Won, Game over. It is right that he is dead and I Applaud it— Justice for our Victims and their Families, and one-less major-threatening Evil to fear. Do I feel “Safer” now?… A little bit… but, like the “Mafia”, we’re never going to wipe-out EVERYbody. It’s a big World, and whether they’re small or prominent, how many more “Bad Guys” and Terrorists still want Control, are still secretly Plotting, and how many more will keep coming. Like Insects, they’re Crawling everywhere on this Earth, and we’re destined to be in never-ending War and faced with the realization that ridding the Earth of them is not something we Humans will do, but rather by some final Act of God or Nature. I am glad for our Victory on this one— but with this Relief also comes the Fear of possible Retalliation at some unexpected point, and, oddly, an even heightened personal sense of Insecurity. We try not to think about this Plague hovering over us— People wanting to blow us off the face of the Planet (people wanting to blow EVERYbody off the face of the Planet)— We don’t WANT to think about it… it’s frightening… and the killing of BinLaden just emphasizes how Real it all really IS, and how much we need to Pray to God to save us. Lastly, but most importantly, I can’t express enough Support and Gratitude to our Troops— those who are gone, and those still living and fighting— for EVERYthing they have done and continue to do, in THEIR effort to “save us”.

MY grandson is in the military. He is at the top of his class and is in training for special forces.
While I stand behind our men I do not stand behind some of our nations political choices that spend those men like “play money”.

  8. Kreuzer33 Says:

So to play devil’s advocate, because I know that a lot of readers want to see Casey Anthony receive the death penalty (if found guilty)….would anyone here celebrate her death (if this happens in the future)?

Just a question to throw out there…

  9. One Op Says:

I will not celebrate her death simply because It is not valuable to me to celebrate
There are too many children murdered and living in horrible situations world wide
It is legal justice that Caylee’s murderer be brought to answer, I go along with that but celebrate, no. And I really don’t find it to be closure that Casey be found guilty. Would rather these horrible acts never happen, but they will again.

  10. zelda Says:

No ….I cannot celebrate death,,,,,,,,,I will celebrate justice.

  11. Honeydog Says:

Zelda, you know I know what you mean on that last issue, as well as knowing I agree. Numerous times we’ve discussed our strong Contradictions, Frustrations with and Anger over the Stand our Government takes on many things— especially including the Expenditure of Lives and Money in it’s egotistical Quest to rule the World, which more often than not appears to be the case… Terrorism aside. Ironically, it has surely lost more of both than it has gained, and, while it continues to use them up to fight to help the Outsiders beyond our Country’s perimeters, we wonder where WE fit in, and how we Belong, and why these Losses are Justified.

  12. Honeydog Says:

On John’s question, I too stand with celebrating the Victory of “Justice” done. Whatever that may be for Casey Anthony, so be it, and I will accept it as that, but am not waiting to throw a Party or anything over her Death.

  13. Kreuzer33 Says:

There ya go! 🙂 Just wanted to see if different circumstances brought different responses…

  14. Sherry Says:

Yup! Its about good triumphing over evil and celebrating justice at last for the victims.

  15. We never stopped looking until justice was served.
