A “Stinky” Situation in San Francisco

San Francisco’s push for low-flow toilets has turned into what can only be described as a multimillion-dollar plumbing stink.

All I can say is…..P.U.

From CNN:

Because water flow isn’t pushing the waste through the system fast enough, a stinky sludge is building up in the sewers, the Chronicle reports. It’s blamed for a rotten-egg smell wafting through areas of the city, especially during summer, according to the report.

So the city is spending $14 million to buy a three-year supply of concentrated bleach to combat the sewer odor, disinfect treated water before it’s pumped into San Francisco Bay and sanitize tap water.

Oh My Gosh, we are a filthy mess! I always thought of the ocean was supposed to be refreshing. Oh My Gosh is that what they swim in when swimmers swim the distance to Alcatraz? Oh Boy!

  2. One Op Says:

John, I am thinking of your brother who was in the terrible accident. How is he doing. Has he gotten his strength back yet. I went thru your monthly archives and am not finding where you had posted when he was in hospital, so am off topic here.

  3. Kreuzer33 Says:

Still bed ridden much of the day. May never get feeling back in his leg. Overall getting a bit better though.

  4. One Op Says:

Thank you John, I guess it takes a long time, he was so badly injured. I sure hope his youth is a positive in his healing process and that he will fully recover.

  5. Honeydog Says:

Good that the Contaminated Waste will be treated before spilling into the Bay, but wouldn’t it make good sense to ALSO incorporate a faster, more-efficient Water-pushing System….?

(PS to JOHN: I’m glad *OneOp* asked about your Brother… I was thinking about doing the same at one point a little while back, but then got into something here and forgot. I sure hope that in due time his condition will have made better and gratifying progress).
