Regis Philbin Retiring

Regis Philbin made the announcement at the start of the long-running “Live with Regis & Kelly” program this morning that he was retiring from the popular morning show.

From CNN:

“This will be my last year on this show … but there is a time, there is a time that everything needs to come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people,” Philbin said.

The show, now in its 22nd year in national syndication, began as a local morning show in New York in 1983.

Kathie Lee Gifford joined Philbin in 1985 on the show and it debuted three years later nationally as “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee.”

Gifford left the show in 2000 and Philbin was joined by current co-host Kelly Ripa in 2001.

They all seem to be going don’t they… Larry King, Regis… but really, how much more excitement and self-gratification can he get after 20-some years of that particular show. Unfortunately, if there IS still a “Live”, he’s the one who made it what it is, and, in my opinion, not much of a Show without him. Regis has done quite alot in his Career, and I can imagine that there does come a time for those like him where simply enjoying the rest of your life becomes the exciting part. As for me, unless he pops-up someplace else, I’ll be happy to continue to catch him on re-runs of “Millionaire”.

Imagine having all the money they have at this time of life to comfort those desires………..Good job Regis.
    Things they are a changin.
