Four Loko to Make Changes to Formula…

Four Loko is changing its formula ahead of today’s expected decision by federal regulators to crack down on similar drinks. Additional details can be found at the link below.

From CNN:

The Food and Drug Administration is scheduled to announce the results of its year-long safety review of caffeinated alcohol drinks Wednesday afternoon. Five states — New York, Washington, Utah, Michigan and Oklahoma — already have taken steps to remove them from store shelves.

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, who pushed for the restrictions in his state, said the FDA is prepared to ban caffeinated alcohol drinks. And ahead of Wednesday’s announcement, the makers of the Four Loko brand announced they would reformulate the beverage to remove caffeine and two other ingredients, guarana and taurine.

“We have repeatedly contended — and still believe, as do many people throughout the country — that the combination of alcohol and caffeine is safe,” the company said in a statement issued Tuesday evening. “If it were unsafe, popular drinks like rum and colas or Irish coffees that have been consumed safely and responsibly for years would face the same scrutiny that our products have recently faced.”

Last sentence in the above Text… Yeah, right. I think not— ONE of these Drinks is equal to a 6-PACK of BEER… and Teens, especially, among whom these Drinks are so popular, don’t Drink “Responsibly”.

There has already been one reported Death in Florida, and real-life stories of the dangerous effects of these Drinks are popping-up on the News. As long as there was tons of Money to be made off it in the craze it has become, the makers of this stuff will say ANYthing. It never ceases to amaze me, the abundance of really bad products allowed to pass approval and be sold in the first place.
