Ready for a Trip to Space?

Hundreds of travelers have signed up and been trained to be among the first paying passengers aboard Virgin Galactic’s trips to suborbital space. These trips will take place 62 miles above the Earth.

Virgin Galactic wants $200,000 for a flight. Anybody willing to fork out the money to go?

From CNN:

About 360 paying passengers have signed up to be among Virgin Galactic’s first travelers, CEO George Whitesides said. After the initial launches, he expects that number to grow to thousands and tens of thousands.

“That’s a fundamental shift,” he said. “A whole bunch of our major assumptions about space travel are undergoing a major shift.”

This past year has seen important strides toward this shift. Washington licensed Jacksonville, Florida’s Cecil Field as the nation’s eighth non-government spaceport in January. New Mexico’s Spaceport America, where Virgin Galactic plans to permanently base its space flights, completed a nearly 2-mile spacecraft runway this month.

Virgin Galactic test-flew its spacecraft Sunday.

I can imagine that this would surely be quite an incredible experience, and you can’t help but wonder about the way Space Travel will be, many years from now, and the probability of these Trips being like regular Family Vacations to Disneyland, with a Flight “pulling out” several times a day. I guess if you’re one of those people with a burning Desire, that kind of Money to spare, and the opportunity to do it, this would make the list of those things you just gotta do before you die. Not me though. Not saying that kind of “Adventure” doesn’t interest me— Just isn’t FOR me. Even if I had an extra $200-Grand to do with whatever I felt, I wouldn’t care to go. It would complete my Life much more to do some good for someone or something with that Money right down here on Earth. Besides, you know what they say whenever something really New and really Big is introduced to Consumers— Better to wait till the Bugs are worked out! But, that’s what makes the World go-round… Different Strokes for Different Folks.

i don’t want to go even if it was a freebie, unless of course it would be my ride to Heaven.

Let’s see…………if I save my laundry money for fifty years I would have enough gas money to drive to the launch.
