Actor Tony Curtis Dies

Tony Curtis, an Oscar-nominated actor and father of actress Jamie Lee Curtis, has died at the age 85.

Curtis passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest at his home near Las Vegas.

From the Associated Press:

His first wife was actress Janet Leigh of “Psycho” fame; actress Jamie Lee Curtis is their daughter.

“My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages,” Jamie Lee Curtis said in a statement Thursday. “He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world.”

Curtis struggled against drug and alcohol abuse as starring roles became fewer, but then bounced back in film and television as a character actor.

I grew up on His movies….I had a mad crush on him for sure!He was a real movie STAR ……..handsome…a good actor and made the term “swashbuckler” come alive.

He led a glamorous life…many women, super social and charming. He was the epitome of Hollywood lovers and we young girls were silly over him.

Oooooooooooo….Tony Curtis!!!!!! I remember his pictures in Photoplay…….just terrific.

He led a full and exciting life……….and was loved by many across the world.

Who could ask for anything more????? Good job Tony!

I think, between Jamie Lee’s statement and yours, it about sums it up. (And “Photoplay”— What a Blast from the Past… I remember my own Fantasies of being Janet Leigh, looking through that Magazine!).

Yes, a TRUE “Movie Star”. As I look back on the “Old Days” of Film, it’s difficult to think of any Movies Tony WASN’T in and types of Roles he DIDN’T play.

“Some Like it Hot” is among my all-time Favorites— not only because of it’s Story, silly Humor, and cast of great Actors, but it always amazed me that such a Suave and Debonnaire Handsome “Hunk”, in that time-period, would even agree to play, much less pull-off that Character so well.

Showed me the depths of Fearlessness and Versatility in his Acting abilities, and his true Passion for his Work, despite knowing his Hollywood “Pretty-Boy” and “Heartthrob” Personna. If he could do that, he could do anything.

And he did… Comedy, Drama, Tragedy, Action/Adventure, Crime, Religious, History…. I’ve seen him display every Emotion known to Human Nature, and all with the greatest Conviction. He did indeed “live the Fast Life” of a Hollywood Movie Star, but, even that, he did with “Style” and “Class”.

A Charismatic Man and a real “Film Legend” leaves us— but not without many years of great and Sentimental Memories of the Impact he made and the Pleasure he brought.
