Casey Anthony: Jurors Will Be in For a Long Haul

We all know that when the Casey Anthony trial finally occurs, it won’t be over in a day, a week, or probably even a month. Potential jurors will have to be in it for the long haul!

Jacqueline Fell of Central Florida News takes a look today at what the judge, the attorneys and the jurors can expect during this high profile trial.

From the article:

Trey Fischer is a senior trial consultant in Orlando. He said finding enough jurors will be difficult.

He also said the majority of jurors will likely be retirees.

“Retirees tend to have more conservative views of the case. In Florida, no matter where you are, [you’re] going to get a lot of retirees,” Fischer said.

“Two months away from home and sequestered. No phone, no computer, no television, no contact with family, and not to work — that’s a tough deal,” Cheney Mason said.

I remember talking about this a while back as being one of the toughest Challenges The Defense will face.
Under these type of circumstances, one can understand why. Individuals who are “Retired” would surely be the most-likely to agree to these conditions, as those who have Jobs and Families to support and tend to aren’t going to give-up their Paychecks for mere Peanuts, especially for such a long period of time. I even kind of think that Baez’s hope to recruit some of the Hispanic Population isn’t going to pan-out so well either, as the Males are dedicated to providing for their Families, usually bring Home a decent amount of Cash after a Day’s/Week’s work, and, besides not wanting to give that up, I doubt they would have much, if any, real interest in being involved in a Court Trial. Not quite sure about the Advantages vs. Disadvantages of an “Elderly” Jury… But then, their Age is not the Factor in the Selection Process.

The way I understand this, is that The Defense believes that individuals who are Retired would be more WILLING to serve on the Jury— not that they intend to only seek-out such people. As for the Latinos, I just remember it being mentioned at one point when the talk of moving the Trial to a more Southern location in Florida (i.e. Miami) was first brought-up by Baez. Personally, it would suit me fine to see the entire Jury Box seated with Hispanic Men and Women…. They cherish and are very protective of their Children, and a Mother who is accused of killing her Child would not sit well, rather at all, with any of them.
