Man Tries to Cut Off Own Arm

A man who was trapped in his basement by a broken furnace for three days, tried to cut off his own arm, in hopes of survival.

From CNN:

Jonathan Metz had been trapped in his basement for two days when he smelled rotting flesh and realized his only hope to stay alive was to amputate his left arm, which was trapped by a furnace. So he made a tourniquet just below his shoulder and sawed through 90 percent of his arm before he passed out.

Luckily, neighbors realized they had not seen Metz for a few days and called police, who were able to rescue him with the aid of firefighters.

Whew… Can’t imagine the Trauma he was experiencing. I’m so glad he was found and didn’t lose his Life.

  2. Wow! That must have been excruciatingly painful! I had an uncle that had his arm yanked off by farm equipment. He drove himself to a doctor- an hour drive.

It was always amazing to watch him tie his shoes or light a match with one hand. Much more fun than my grandfather taking out his glass eye to “keep an eye” on us when he wasn’t around. (He lost an eye due to rebar).

Reminds me of that Movie “Hot Shots”, when Charlie Sheen says “I have my Father’s Eyes”…. then casually takes an Eyeglass Case out of his Pocket, opens it, and there’s two EYEBALLS inside! That was Funny. Can’t imagine being a Kid and being “Watched” by one sitting on a Table though. Did it creep you out?
