Joran van der Sloot Accused of Murder in Peru

Joran van der Sloot, who was previously arrested in the 2005 disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway, is the prime suspect in a weekend murder of a woman in Peru.

From the Associated Press:

Joran van der Sloot is being sought in the Sunday killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel, Criminal police chief Gen. Cesar Guardia told a news conference. He said the suspect fled the country the next day by land to Chile.

The Dutch government said Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant for Van der Sloot.

Guardia said the 22-year-old Dutchman, who was in the country for a poker tournament, appears with the young woman in a video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday.

The victim’s father, Ricardo Flores, told reporters she was killed about 8 a.m. in a hotel room in the upscale Miraflores neighborhood that was splattered with blood, indicating a struggle.

The killing occurred exactly five years after the May 30, 2005, disappearance of Holloway in Aruba, a Dutch Caribbean island.

From Reuters:

Joran Van der Sloot was questioned after student Natalee Holloway went missing during a high school graduation trip in the Dutch Caribbean island five years ago, a case that attracted heavy media attention in the United States. He was not charged due to insufficient evidence.

Now he is wanted in Peru in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, a Peruvian woman found dead on the floor of a hotel room in Lima on Monday.

“Homicide personnel are convinced, due to the incriminating evidence we’ve found, that this Dutch citizen is the person responsible for killing Stephany Flores,” said Cesar Guardia, head of the Peruvian police crimes unit.

From CBS News:

Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken, who has been part of the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, has learned that Joran van der Sloot is now a suspect in a new murder, that of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. The prosecutor told CBS News that the allegation was a remarkable development and says that he is personally shocked by it.

Early Wednesday morning, Stephany Flores Ramirez was found dead, Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reports, in a hotel room registered under van der Sloot’s name. According to police reports, Ramirez had been brutally stabbed and was found wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood.

Well, I hope they finally get the jerk.

  2. I hope they finally take his confession seriously!

  3. OneOp Says:

Since Van der Sloot was already a suspect in the murder of a young woman and
actually confessed he was there when she died there should have been a tattoo on
his forehead that identified he could be dangerous. Natalie Halloway had no warning of course, but his next victim did not have to die. He was left to go
wherever he pleased, but some sort of identification should have been obvious that he was a murder suspect and young women would not be charmed. Paint a
red ring around their throat, a blue nose, a green forehead, anything that tells
us what they could have done or could do. Sound too harsh? Was it harsh for
a young woman to die, because this piece of s was left to wander into her life?

  4. Lona1 Says:

    Brutal prison conditions in Peru,

The cells are concrete with a hole in the floor for a toilet. One meal a day, of mostly rice or potatoes, is served, along with tea and a bit of bread morning and night. Occasionally the midday stew is flavored with chunks of rat meat, according to former prisoners.Newspapers are banned, as are radios, television and writing instruments.

  5. Hadley Says:

If the law in Aruba wasn’t so corrupt, he would be in prison for murdering Natalie H. He doesn’t stand a change of escaping Interpol…just a matter of time. I wonder if it will ever be known if he has killed other young women. He is obviously a serial killer. His father is dead, so he can’t “save” him this time. Aruba officals are shameful for allowing him to go free! Wonder if he will try suicide?

I’ll bet he is trying to reach his Mother somehow. I’m sure her phone is being traced.

Just a matter of time before he is caught…

  6. Lona1 Says:

Maybe he’ll use his credit cards today, call his mother or his lawyer.

  7. katybug Says:

Good!! He was caught. Now let’s see him weasle his way out now. Daddy is no longer around to save his sorry a$$.

  8. OneOp Says:

He probably still thinks his fathers position has taught him everything he needs to know to get him off. No weapon found. He will say he left earlier, and point
the finger at the Hotel’ staff. jmo. Looks like a same scenario as with Natalie.
“He was there but he didn’t do it.”

  9. Lona1 Says:

They don’t have the death penalty in Peru, but they do waterboarding and electroshock.

  10. Lona1 Says:

Can you believe that he died his hair just like Scott Peterson?

  11. Lona1 Says:

    that should be dyed

A few details about Joran’s new digs:

    1. HIV/AIDS spreading rapidly due to the high incidents of rape. Current infection rates are estimated by WHO at over 50%.
    2. TB. Also spreading rapidly due to overcrowding. The major prison in Lima, the capital, was originally built to hold 2,000, but now contains over 11,000. Currently 140+ inmates are housed in the infirmary due to TB. The rest, estimated at over 5,000, are required to have “out-patient” therapy which includes the occasional antibiotics. They just got their first autoclave recently so they can now sterilize their medical equipment!
    3. Prostitution is rampant. Conducted almost solely by HIV/AIDS infected men and women and the guards allow it.
    4. Guards are disinterested in the actual prisoners or justice but do enjoy torturing them.
    5. Drug dealing is rampant. Prisoners are often moved around from prison to prison for the sole purpose of dealing drugs for the guards. They are often required to “mule” balloons of heroin and other things. They are of course not allowed to partake, just to transport. Balloons sometimes burst and they OD on the bus rides.
    6. Drug dealing kingpins are armed even though they are locked up. They are also allowed to “run” their own cell blocks. They do this with the same terrifying level of violence as on the outside.
    7. Average cell size is 6 X 8. This cell will house at least 3 people. One sleeps on the floor while the other two sit on benches on either side. These benches are not big enough for the average adult to lay on. Suitable just for sitting.

It’s a party Joran, and your invited 

  13. Lona1 Says:

    meant to say ‘girl’

  14. Lona1 Says:

in the second video box (above link) they are showing him off at a news conference like a price.

Third video box shown how furious the public is and they hurried him away.

  15. Honeydog Says:

*Amy*…. Wow! I’m kind of disappointed to learn about all the bad stuff going on in the Prison, especially the overwhelming access to Drugs and Women, and “Cell Block Running”— Knowing Joran, I’m afraid he’s going to “Fit In” just fine, and is actually going to LIKE it there. I mean, he’ll probably weasel his way to the status he wants somehow, so he can still feel like he’s King Shit. He doesn’t DESERVE being allowed to continue his Ways, when he should be SUFFERING, but I Bet he ain’t gonna settle for sittin around bein a good Boy……

  16. […] which are common to many other prisons in Africa. More than one million people are in prison in AfriPeru Prison Conditions – The documentary provides disturbing footage of prison conditions in these countries, conditions […]

  17. blue bird Says:

Thanks god this time he can’t get off the hook. My sympathy goes to the families of the victims. Joran, the mama boy, was spoiled and transformed in a monster by his family, Dutch Judiciary system and Government. He thinks that is very smart, and is in full disregard for others. For the disappearances of Natalee, the Dutch government covered up the Joran’s crime, and they are as guilty as him. The Peruvians are Kind and Nice people, but they won’t tolerate this macabre crime. This is something that they can’t swallow.

  18. Lona1 Says:

    Larry king,

“He’ll be put in Lurigancho Prison, which is the worst of the worst,” Michael Griffith, senior partner at the International Legal Defense Counsel, tells AOL News. “They should have a sign above the door there saying, ‘All those who pass this way leave all hope behind.’ ”

Griffith has counseled and represented clients in more than 40 countries on a variety of charges. His most renowned case, involving an American incarcerated in a Turkish prison, was the basis for the film and book “Midnight Express.”

Having visited more than two dozen foreign prisons, Griffith says Lurigancho is in a world of its own.

“There are 35 guys in a room there,” he says. “They don’t have beds, they go to the bathroom on the floor and the showers run once a week for 15 minutes. Fifty percent of the inmates have AIDS or tuberculosis, and you can die from eating the food.”

  19. Lona1 Says:

“His toxicological report shows no signs that he had ingested any kind of drug,” Guardia said.

    Lying scum!!!!

  20. zelda Says:

He lies about everything…he thinks it’s funny to jerk people around….gives him a real high…..like all good sociopaths.
He even drug his dad into one scenario concerning the Holloway girl. That proved to be false as far as the location. However I believe his dad DID help move the body somewhere. AND he (joran) thinks he can still hold a good hand if he jerks that issue around. I feel so bad for Natalie’s parents etc.

I tell you that guy is real pond scum…..he deserves MORE than what he will get in one of the Peruvian jails. Let’s hope he cannot buy his way out……….I think he is counting on that possibility. Well…………the world is watching so it’s going to be a different ball game this time.

He is a control freak coddled by his mother and or dad.

I hear the $25,000.00 the Feds used was given by his mother. GEZUS!!!!! What an indulgent wacko mother.

I wonder what his brothers are like?

  21. Lona1 Says:

You have two families: “Joe Legal” and “Jose Illegal”. Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash “under the table”.

    Ready? Now pay attention…

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

    Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.0
0 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year.. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631 .00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, “We don’t need no stinkin’ insurance!” and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc.

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month..

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal’s and Jose Illegal’s children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children’s lunches while Jose Illegal’s children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal’s children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal’s children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

    Do you get it, now?

I understand Joran was “Officially Charged” on Friday.
The News Footage of his Transport was BRUTAL— Stampeding, Crushing Crowd, stuff being thrown at him, the Police yanking and jerking him…. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a frightening Frenzy— not even with Casey. I don’t care how Tough he thinks he is, by the look on his Face I think he was shaking in his Shoes. Man, I thought NO one could Despise him more than WE do, but those people over there are out for Blood. I know he’s still got his newest Trick up his Sleeve, but, after seeing that, I can’t imagine that SOME Reality isn’t settling in on him, and maybe, for the first time in his Life, he’s feeling VERY small and alone.

  24. zelda Says:

After reading about the prison joran is in I felt sick to my stomach.Literally.No compassion for him , but just a sick feeling overall about the plight of man.
What a mess we humans have made.
I can’t feel elated when I look into that window provided us by the evening news.
    My gawd ……….
    Consequence is all too real.

video of VDS as he is walked into the jail and into his jail cell. Shows his bed, sink, etc. His cell is 3×8 feet in size. I find it odd that they keep checking his blood pressure every chance they get….too much in my opinion.

JEAN CASAREZ, CORRESPONDENT, “IN SESSION”: You know, Jane, this has been a very, very big day today because for the first time ever, we can say defendant Joran Van Der Sloot –s for the very first time, he was charged today, formal charges. It is a murder case here in Lima, Peru, along with robbery.

That is called a qualified murder in Peru, meaning there are aggravating circumstances that can lead to a higher sentence. And as prosecutors said, he ferociously and without any caring at all killed Stephany Flores. Of course he has a private attorney now by his side that says this case will go to trial.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now that we know the specific charges, Dan Conaway, international law expert, how much time could he serve maximum if convicted?

DAN CONAWAY, FORMER PROSECUTOR: If convicted now, he could serve up to life in prison.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. Because we`ve been hearing, in Peru, you don`t serve that much time, there`s no death penalty for homicide, the maximum is 35 years, but this is a little bit different because it`s this special qualified murder with the aggravating factor of robbery. Tell us about that.

CONAWAY: That`s right, Jane, and basically what Peruvian authorities are saying is that they`re not messing around in this case. They`re going to throw the book at him and that Van Der Sloot`s lawyers better stop playing games and start negotiating. Otherwise he could serve the rest of his life in a Peruvian prison.

But remember he`s got two potential death sentences. One he could easily end up like Jeffrey Dahmer and we know what happened to him. Or two, he could end up spending the rest of his life there. And then the U.S. wants him after that.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, this is huge news and everybody in the world it seems is interested in it.

  29. kreuzer33 Says:

It’s OK. I totally believe in free speech. But, I’d just like to keep it a little less “edgy” on the site. It’s all I’ve ever asked…

  30. Honeydog Says:

*Zelda* (RE 6/13): I know what you mean. Makes you hang your Head and Sigh….
