Casey Anthony: Officially A Felon

Some people may have missed this yesterday, but by entering a guilty plea in her check fraud trial, accused murderer Casey Anthony is now a convicted felon.

Any thoughts on how this will impact her upcoming murder trial? Does it make a difference?

From ABC News:

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty Monday to 13 counts of check fraud.  She was sentenced to time already served.

“I’m sorry for what I did,” Casey said. “I sincerely apologize to Amy. I wish I would have been a better friend.”

She stole hundreds of dollars from  former friend Amy Huizenga. The crimes were committed around the same time that Casey’s daughter, Caylee Anthony was missing in the summer of 2008. The 2-year-old’s remains were found later that year.

During Monday’s hearing, Circuit Judge Stan Strickland found her guilty on six counts and withheld adjudication for the other seven counts.

Hey John~~you have been a busy old man bringing us all the news. Thank you!

Now that Casey is a convicted felon, it could play quite a significant role in the penalty phase of her murder trial.

Yeah. My bad. My last three posts all got left in my draft folder so they all got posted at about the same time 🙂

John~ I don’t think Casey will take the stand so this will not come into play until the penalty phase. Jose would not dare put her on the stand, the state would have a field day with her and ALL her lies. I can just see Casey angry on the stand because the mean prosecutors are going to make her tell the truth.

laurali your last sentece was so funny! wouldn’t that be a hoot to see the mean ole prosecution rip her lies(oops, half-truths) apart??

If Casey were to take the stand in the murder trial, the defense would have her well prepped. How do I know this? Look how swell a job they did prepping her for her plea statement? She quoted all the right words, and sniffled at the right time. I saw no anger or defiance.

The Judge did not ask any questions either he just said go ahead. Now if he would have said did you learn it is bad to steal I can see fist up in the air and her say who in the hell do you think you are talking to? I am CMA, I am allowed to steal, my mom let me do it my whole life. She was prepared to make a statement not answer questions. jmo

While Casey’s Plea officially labels her a Felon, it’s True that it is not permitted to be brought-up in the Criminal Trial unless she chooses, or is advised, to take the Stand. I would be willing to Bet she won’t. Although any “knowing” Jurors would surely be instructed beforehand not to consider the Fraud Conviction, I would also be willing to Bet that it would still be “in the back of their minds”…. Not only is the Media wide-spread and the constant force behind each and every little “Update” on her Case, and provides on-going “reminders” of every Move she’s ever made and every Word she’s ever spoken, but, The Prosecution as well, in the Courtroom, will surely be bringing-up and describing her Actions and Behavior throughout the time Caylee was supposedly “Missing”. How can ANYone not let this Conviction enter their Thoughts— You just can’t simply “Erase” certain information from your Head, or think about something without something else affecting it. Personally, I can’t see that it’s humanly possible to escape the awareness of what she did, was charged with, and has now been Convicted of, and, in one way or another, I would have to say that it WILL affect the Criminal Trial, whether she Testifies or not. Of course, what the Jury is “supposed to do”, and is capable of, is left to be seen.

    John, (and all)
If you all get a chance, read Bill Shaeffer’s current blog. He explains WHY the defence made a big mistake by allowing Casey to plea. Now she is a felon x 6, and the jury is going to frown on that big time. If you all haven’t read Mr. Shaeffer’s blog, I recommend it highland. It sure helped me understand why the defence is in trouble.

meant to say I recommend it “highly”…..(My little Yorkie has an ear ache, and I’m worried about him ’til I get him to the vet tomorrow.

*Hadley*…. Casey was “Charged” with Fraud. There was significant, accurate Evidence to support the Charge. She, nor no one else, could Deny it. It was either take the Plea, or go before a Jury. Either way, she would be found Guilty. Either way, the Public (including Jurors for the Criminal Trial) would be aware of it. Either way, the same result (being “Frowned-upon”) would occur.

If you notice, Anytime any of the Anthonys say the words sincerely or honestly before their remark, THEY ARE LYING…
