Murder, Rape Charges in Sandra Cantu Case

According to prosecutors, Melissa Huckaby kidnapped, raped and murdered Sandra Cantu and then stuffed her body in a suitcase.

I knew about the murder charges but somehow missed the accusation of rape!

From the Associated Press:

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was charged with murdering her daughter’s playmate, Sandra Cantu, in a gruesome crime that has shocked and terrified residents of Tracy, a Northern California city of about 78,000, 60 miles east of San Francisco.

Huckaby, who volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at her grandfather’s Clover Road Baptist Church in Tracy, appeared in a San Joaquin County courtroom for her arraignment in a red jumpsuit and shackles. She trembled and cried as a judge read the charge: one count of murder with the special circumstances of rape with a foreign object, lewd or lascivious conduct with a child under 14 and murder in the course of a kidnapping.

The special circumstances mean Huckaby, if convicted, could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. District Attorney James Willett said Tuesday he has not decided whether to seek the death penalty.

During Tuesday’s hearing, which lasted several minutes, public defender Ellen Schwarzenberg asked Judge Richard A. Vlavianos for a gag order in the case. Vlavianos said that question would be answered by his colleague, Judge Terrence Van Oss, who would be presiding over future hearings.

Vlavianos ordered Huckaby to return to court April 24, when she’s expected to enter a plea.

My feeling about this is that this woman is taking the blame for another family member – she feels she has to – I also think she suffers from a mental disorder – most likely brought on by child sexual abuse from an early age. I may be all wet and just looking for a way to justify what I saw in this woman’s face and eyes and none of this makes sense that she is the guilty party. I think this is the tip of the iceberg as they say.

Stone her to death….. I’ll pay $500 for the first stone. Give the proceeds to hunt down child killers!

well, I am not with the Tracy police department, so perhaps they know things I do not. the rape part must have come from the autopsy that was performed, but they did not think it was good to release that result too early. for some reason, they think that it happened in the church. but i was not there. but if she confessed, and she did it, I’ll chip in and throw the second stone.

While I am still Shocked and Saddened by the Death of Sandra at the Hands of a Female Sunday School Teacher, the cruel way in which she was “Discarded”, and particularly by these disturbing new Details, AND I absolutely DO want Justice for this poor little innocent Victim, I also have to agree with
“HelenofJoy” above. I saw the same things in Melissa’s Eyes and Face… Hurt, Disbelief, Confusion, Aloneness, and yes, true Remorse. As Psychology Experts stated, what she displayed was not so much associated with her knowing her Predicament, but rather that of deeply-rooted Traumatic Emotional Instability for which she needed Help but never received. This certainly DOESN’T make the Horrible things she did, alright, and we all know she WILL pay for it, but unlike Casey Anthony, I believe this Woman is not Hearltess, nor Cold and Calculated, and I, too, think we’ll learn there’s more to this Case than how it appears. My Prayers go out to ALL who are Suffering from this Tradgedy.

Somethings not right… Theres more to this story than what we are all seeing. Wait and watch, the truth will come out. I believe in an eye for an eye. May little Sandra rest in peace. My heart goes out to all of Gods children like Sandra Cantu, Caylee Anthony, and Marcus Fissel. Little ones who never got a chance to grow up due to heartless individuals.
