Obama Wins! Declares New Mexico Sun

“Obama Wins!” is the headline of the latest edition of the New Mexico Sun on newsstands now, complete with “special collector’s edition” in red bold typeface. I haven’t yet read this article but saw the story on CNN today. I’m sure there is more behind this story than is being shown today on television as I’m sure a publication like the New Mexico Sun would not go ahead and print a story such as this if they did not have anything to back it up.

From CNN:

The Sun News is a bi-monthly newspaper and its Oct 26-Nov 8 issue had to hit the streets, and the newsstands, before the election. So the editors decided to make a leap of faith and declare Democrat Barack Obama the winner.

In an article explaining their choice, the editors unabashedly wrote, “When it comes to calling the winner of a presidential election, everyone wants to be first. The New Mexico Sun News hereby claims that achievement.”

In its tongue-in-cheek style, the article went on to note the newspaper has a goal of reaching one million readers with each edition, but prints just 10,000 copies of each of its issues.

So, “each copy must be read by 100 different and distinct people. This places an enormous burden on our intrepid readers. However, it is a burden that we must insist you carry. So, please, read quickly, care for the physical condition of the paper and pass it on to your next chosen reader.”

From the National Ledger:

Cancel the vote, it is over. The New Mexico Sun News has declared, Obama wins! Is this the newspaper John McCain will hold if he pulls off the big upset in what would be a modern day Dewey Beats Truman moment? Perhaps the paper will be a collector’s item as the Chicago Tribune was after their premature deceleration in the Dewey vs. Truman race.

Dewey Defeats Truman was a famously incorrect banner headline on the front page of the first edition of the Chicago Tribune on November 3, 1948. President Harry S. Truman, who had been expected to lose to Republican challenger Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 presidential race, won the election, according to a Wiki entry.

I pledge No allegiance to Obama

And corrupt welfare state for which he stands.

And to Socialist democrats who want to rule .

Will leave no Nation under their thumb.

No liberty , No justice for all.

Reformed democrat that means I voted for McCain.

Tell the people . On Wednesday Turn off Obamas 30 Min sideshow and take the time to think before they vote.

Talk about the issues with their family and friends.

Don’t be sheep. Decide for yourself . But most of all This Great Nation.

Go Vote! Don’t listen to all the hype. If you don’t go Vote for Obama, then you are voting for McCain. McCain can still win. If Obama folks don’t go vote, then McCain will easily win. Its not over, make sure you vote, your family votes, and your friends vote. Choose Hope over Hatred. -Obama/Biden -08

It is unfortunate that the original CNN story didn’t mention the 14 page
article that was a compendium of the 38 best editorial page endorsements
from all over the United States, and neglected to mention, as we did in the
article, that we were justified in saying Obama Wins! because he had just
won the Scholastic Magazine election by mostly sixth graders.

These 38 endorsements, plus about 20 more, are posted at mybarackobama.com
in my personal blog, listed under Stephen Fox They are also posted in 7 very long articles at opednews.com, and there is an opportunity to comment at will and at length.

This was not a stunt, whatsoever. Our next issue comes out 4 days after the
election, and his victory would be old news by then. We are not seers nor
fortune tellers, but we are like most Americans Poli Sci wonks, scholars,
and Democratic strategists. I personally have been concentrating on making
happen the editorial page endorsement avalanche for Obama we are seeing now,
and like a gardener, proud to hold up the first fruits of victory.

The comparison with the Chicago Tribune and Dewey is irrelevant. We are
proud of endorsing him in this way, to just declare him the winner, which
apparently you would have known if you were still in 6th grade.

By making this out to be a “stunt” or a “prank,” the Senior Political
Correspondent at CNN dismissed our motivation. Nonetheless, we are glad we
did what we did, and certainly not “just to be first.” The endorsements are
all at OpEdNews.com and at mybarackobama.com at my blog site: read them in
succession, and you will comprehend more clearly our effort and its
    integrity.
