Casey Anthony: Week One of Murder Trial in the Books…

May 28, 2011

Well…the first week of testimony in the Casey Anthony murder trial definitely had it’s moments, and many thought that it was filled with bombshells.

What do you expect in the coming days/weeks?

From CNN:

As week one of the trial comes to a close, capped off Saturday by the compelling testimony of Casey’s mother, Cindy Anthony, an outsider to the case can only speculate if the jurors feel the truth is coming into focus.

If the jurors are looking for answers in Casey’s face, they may come away empty-handed. While Casey has broken down in court on several occasions, particularly when the subject turns to her relationship with Caylee, she is often stoic as she hears the recollections of the men and women who once made up her life.

On Saturday, Casey was essentially stone-faced until a court recess in the middle of her mother’s testimony. Then Casey was seen sobbing and speaking passionately to her attorneys. The defendant regained composure when her mother retook the stand.

Casey Anthony: Hearings Set For Tuesday

May 28, 2010

Judge Belvin Perry has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday to consider a number of motions filed by Casey Anthony’s defense.

From WESH:

Judge Belvin Perry made a change as to what controversial issues he will consider at a hearing in the Casey Anthony case on Tuesday.

The prosecution and defense have been going back and forth regarding how much prosecutors must reveal about why they’re seeking to have Anthony executed.

Both sides have insisted they’re right. The defense filed a motion to strike the state’s so-called notice of aggravating circumstances because it lacks the detail to which they believe they’re entitled.

When Perry ordered prosecutor Jeff Ashton to reveal the aggravating factors the state will argue to seek death against Anthony, attorney Jose Baez called it a major victory.

“We’re elated by the fact that the judge is ordering this to occur,” Baez said.

Casey Anthony: Headed Back to Court Today

May 28, 2009

Get excited everyone! Casey Anthony will be back in court today as lawyer Jose Baez asks the judge to seal the video that the Sheriff’s Office took in the Orange County Jail’s medical facility back on December 11 of last year.

From MyFoxOrlando:

Baez believes the Sheriff’s Office orchestrated a plan with the jail to capture Casey’s reaction for relase to the media. In the motion, Baez notes audio recordings released by the state earlier this year.

Baez will present his case to Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland. This hearing was originally scheduled on May 7.

Casey Anthony: Terence Lenamon’s Thoughts on New Defense Attorney

May 28, 2009

Hal Boedeker of the Orlando Sentinel has a great post today giving Terence Lenamon’s thoughts on the new defense attorney in the Casey Anthony case, Andrea Lyon.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Miami attorney Terence Lenamon, who left the Anthony case in a dispute with Jose Baez, has nothing but nice things to say about Lyon.

“She’s a fantastic lawyer,” Lenamon told me this morning. “She taught me. She’s an excellent advocate.”

Lenamon said he’s handling a dozen death penalty cases around Florida. He said Baez made a great choice in selecting Lyon.

“She’s an excellent teacher,” Lenamon added. “She’s one of these people who’s walked the walk. I don’t think she has ever lost a [death penalty] case. She’s fabulous. I can’t say enough good stuff about her.”

Casey Anthony: Family Glad Memorial Has Been Removed

May 28, 2009

The makeshift memorial in honor of Caylee Anthony, located on Suburban Drive, can no longer be found.

No one seems to know who did it but the family of Caylee seems to be glad to see it gone.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

George Anthony told the Orlando Sentinel that a neighbor told him Tuesday the lot was cleared. He didn’t know who did it.

“To be honest, I’m glad it’s been cleaned up,” said Anthony. “I, deep inside, appreciate how people care for Caylee. There are no words inside I can express for the people who have come to love her. But her body and spirit aren’t there. They’re gone. She’s with God. She’s with Jesus.”

Records show the parcel is owned by Thomas Hendricks, who lists a Winter Park P.O. box as his mailing address.

A message left with the real estate agent whose number is on a for sale sign on the property was not immediately returned.

Casey Anthony: Andrea Lyon Selected to Join Defense Team

May 28, 2009

Andrea Lyon has been announced as the newest attorney to join Casey Anthony’s defense team. Lyon is a death-penalty expert who has tried more than 130 homicide cases.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Professor Andrea D. Lyon is a clinical professor of law at the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where she also directs the law school’s Center for Justice in Capital Cases, according to a news release.

“Professor Lyon has tried over 130 homicide cases. A former Cook County Public Defender in Illinois, she served as chief of the public defender’s homicide task force,” the statement said. “In 1990 she founded the Illinois Capital Resource Center and served as its director until joining the University of Michigan Law School faculty in 1995.”

Anthony’s defense team needed to bring on a new attorney because her lead attorney, Jose Baez, is not qualified to try death-penalty cases under state law.
