Brett Favre to Retire

August 3, 2010

Will he or won’t he? It’s been the most famous question since “to be, or not to be?” Now it appears that we have the answer.

According to multiple sources this morning, Brett Favre has told the Minnesota Vikings that he will not play in the 2010 season.

So what do you think? Is this the real deal? Will Brett change his mind next week. I’ll tell you what, with all his flip flopping, he’d make a great politician. I think that’s his next profession once he hangs them up!

From ESPN:

Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, “This is it,” league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Neither Favre nor the Vikings have confirmed the news but a press release is expected Tuesday, the sources said.

The Associated Press also reported that Favre is saying that he’s not returning this season.

This would be the third retirement for Favre, who also retired after 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers after the 2007 season and one season with the New York Jets after the 2008 season.

The 40-year-old Favre has been working out at his home in Hattiesburg, Miss., still rehabbing a surgically repaired ankle that was injured in Minnesota’s overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC title game. He has yet to inform the team if he will honor the second year of his contract and come back for another run at the Super Bowl.

Pete Carroll Resigns

January 10, 2010

According to ESPN, Pete Carroll has resigned as the football coach of the USC Trojans.

Not sure if this is a wise idea by Carroll. His NFL days have not been very successful and he’s leaving one of College Football’s most storied programs.

Oh well. Good luck, Pete!

From ESPN:

Carroll has reached an agreement in principle with the Seattle Seahawks on a deal to be their next head coach, multiple NFL sources confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter early Saturday morning.

USC told ESPN.com on Sunday night that the school had nothing official to announce.

Sources say, however, that Carroll has already started to form the staff he will work with in Seattle.

Michael Crabtree, 49ers Finally Reach a Deal

October 7, 2009

The San Francisco 49ers and their number one draft pick Michael Crabtree reached and agreement on a six-year contract early this morning.

From ESPN:

The deal, first reported by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, was confirmed by 49ers spokesman Bob Lange in a text message to The Associated Press early Wednesday.

Crabtree will get a six-year deal that he can void to five years if he meets undefined performance clauses, a league source told ESPN’s Michael Smith.

The 22-year-old Crabtree is expected to report to the team’s training facility Wednesday.

Crabtree and agent Eugene Parker met into the early-morning hours Wednesday with 49ers owner Jed York, general manager Scot McCloughan and Paraag Marathe, vice president of football operations. The two sides had gone almost three weeks without talking.

From USA Today:

The 49ers confirmed the signing of the 10th overall draft pick to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat on early Wednesday morning after a 71-day holdout.

The paper reported Crabtree should be at practice on Wednesday. The contract is for six years.

Former Jets and Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said the 49ers, currently 3-1 and in first place in the NFC West, could really benefit if Crabtree is ready to contribute.

“If this guy can play like everyone expects him to play, the 49ers are the best team in that division,” Edwards said in an appearance on ESPN this morning.
