Casey Anthony: 3 Weeks Until Check Fraud Trial Begins
Casey Anthony is scheduled to stand trial for 13 check fraud counts starting on January 25.
Get excited!!!
From WESH:
The felony charges stem from allegations she drained her friend Amy Huizenga’s bank account of several hundred dollars while her daughter, Caylee, was missing.
Surveillance video appears to show Anthony on several shopping sprees at Target.
Judge Stan Strickland so far has not acted on her defense team’s request to move the trial.
Neither side will comment on whether a plea could be in the works on the fraud case.

They seriously want a trial? Why not plea this one out? Casey admitted in front of le that she stole the checks, they have her on tape at Target and the bank. This is truly a waste of taxpayers money, Jose needs to lawyer here and have her take a plea. jmo

John~~I am excited! Action at last! I don’t believe that Judge Strickland will entertain the idea of a change of venue. He mentioned that it would not take long to panel a jury. I guess the defense wants a jury so the proceedings will be on record. A bench trial would be the easiest way to go but the defense does not want to make anything easy. They love to spend tax dollars.
The interesting part will be in the sentencing phase. I wonder if they will sentence her for the 13 counts or will double jeopardy come into play and 9 of the charges be dismissed.
Will there be a last minute plea, “your honor I am guilty as charged. I am begging the court for mercy because I needed the money to help find my daughter who was kidnapped by her nanny.”

Hi John and Snoop. Happy New Year. Long time since I ‘came out’ of hiding to post. Too scary with all the weirdos out there.
Now, isn’t there a pre trial hearing on Jan. 21 for the murder trial?
My question is when she is found guilty for the check fraud, will she be allowed time served since sitting for a year, or, is that for the child abuse and murder charges?
She better have a big box of Sham Wow Kleenex on hand for the trial, those seem to work good for her.

Carol~~Hey there and Happy New Year. It is good to see you back in the fold.
Dave mentioned something about Jan 21st so I assume it is a pre trial for murder 1. I am waiting for
Strickland to rule on the motion to allow evidence to be introduced re Kronk’s past. I don’t know when that will be heard and ruled on.
The child abuse charges were dropped. The judge will take into consideration time served when he sentences Casey for the check/fraud. Let’s just say, Casey is not going anywhere, outside Orange County jail, unless it is a courtroom, until her murder trial and it looks like it will be a prison, thereafter.

Thanks Snoop. I thought I was lurking enough but never knew that the child abuse charges were ever dropped. Learn something every day about this ‘strange but true’ case. She lives in the sunshine state but will never see sunshine again, nor will Caylee. 2010 WILL be a good year.

Once she was charged with murder 1, there was no reason to leave the child abuse and negligence charges on the table.

Exactly *Snoopy
She has already layed the groundwork for this one by saying in advance….I will lie, steal, or cheat, to get my daughter back, and I mean that with all of my heart. I think she will plea this one out too. She will just parrot that a few more times in her cell to herself to be all prepared in court.

Diana~~ It is hard to tell who is running the show. I have had a feeling from the beginning, that Baez’ number one interest is Baez. Lord knows what he has filled Casey’s head with. He has had over a year to reprogram her. If he had her best interest at heart, he would have instructed her to take a plea way back when. He is supposed to be advising her and not the other way around. Of course, money talks, and there are big buck waiting down the road.
January 5, 2010 at 7:29 pm
My thought that Baez has promised Casey he is going to win this case. Of course, plenty of money is to be expected later. That is why he is playins so mysterious. Wants to spill it all in his after trial life book and appearances. I hope no one calls him, but they want their ratings too. What a dirty string of coming events I would expect. Wonder how many others are holding out til later hoping to cash in, all the boyfriends, and maybe some who will make up stories. Baez can say whatever he wants after. I believe he is one who promotes her to keep quiet because it does not seem normal for her not to activate her mouth.
January 5, 2010 at 8:17 pm
The attorney/client privalege still remains after the relationship has ended. In other words, Baez cannot reveal anything that he and Casey discussed.
January 5, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Darn, then we will never know either, and I want to know, don’t you?
I think the taxpayers have a right. lol
January 5, 2010 at 9:23 pm
OneOp~~ I want to know every little detail but alas, that will never be unless Casey writes a book. I learned about the attorney/client on one of Bill Sheaffer’s videos. It is hard to believe that Baez could remain secretive, if he thought money could be made.

As for this Check Fraud Case, it’s not even here yet, but the possibilities of what might happen between now and then or what the end-result will be after the Trial— if it even goes off— all have ME sitting-up straight! I have a feeling this isn’t “Cut-n-Dried” just yet, and we can expect a couple of the usual Twists and Turns ahead of time. I tend to agree with *OneOp*, that Baez has more-than-likely at least “assured” Casey that everything will turn-out Fine— based solely on, of course, having his Head in the Clouds and his own ideas of Grandeur. Anyway, the Game is out and we’re ready to Play!
January 6, 2010 at 3:30 am
I agree with Oneop, I want to know also! I want to know why Casey is so afraid to tell the truth. Is she really afraid of her mother or is there more?

I can’t remember who it was (I’m thinking maybe Mark Gerragos during one of his many TV Interviews), but I recall hearing some Criminal Defense Attorney state that they don’t necessarily have to Ask, or even actually Know, whether or not their Client did in- fact commit the Crime; that it’s not unusual for Attorneys to defend Clients who simply will not Give-up the Truth or sway from their Story, but that the Attorney naturally “does have a Sense” of their Client’s Guilt; that this part “doesn’t even actually matter” as much to the Attorney as what the Evidence is against their Client, and that their Job is simply to ensure that their Client’s Rights are upheld according to Law, and to seek-out every and all ways to cause Doubt during the Trial.
Personally, I can see where this Scenerio would happen a lot— No matter how much an Attorney might try to gain their Client’s trust by assuring them they’ll do everything they can, or even go as far as to say they’re sure to Win, I can imagine that there are indeed Criminals who just aren’t going to Spill the Beans, no matter WHAT they’re Promised— they believe it’s “Safer” for them not to Budge. In Casey’s case, I honestly don’t even have a feeling about it, one way or the other….
Scott Peterson, O.J., yeah, I could see them blatantly arguing to the end having nothing to do with their Wive’s deaths to their Attorneys— but Casey, she’s so Wacky, Careless, and “Up and Down”, I really couldn’t Bet-on at this point whether Baez knows or not, or even if he does, is it the Truth, does he believe it. I’m sure we’re all going to learn a lot during the Criminal Trial, and I think, like more things always come-out on-down-the-road afterward, we’re eventually going to know the whole Story. We just have to wait.

Honeydog, Really enjoy your take on everything. Easy to read that you really give thought before you comment. I will probably never live long enough to wait. lol
So please keep notations for me if we should happen to meet somewhere in time.
January 7, 2010 at 1:04 am
Oh you are so Sweet and Funny my Friend, but don’t worry, you’ll be right here with the rest of us, and, it never takes long anymore anyway for the “new details” to emerge and hit the Airwaves after we all think something is all over and done-with (one thing good to be said about the World moving so fast these days— The Papparazzi, the Media, and the “Leaks” we’ve all come to Love and Count-on (HA HA) don’t waste any time getting to us… Could’ve used this long ago when we all waited YEARS to learn about Marilyn Monroe and JFK!) So, the only thing we’ll be talking about if we “meet somewhere in time” is “WOW, I pictured you much Taller, and a Brunette!!

Hey you all! I have been waiting on this trial, because we will finally see see casey get what she deserves, she was to stupid to sign her own name to the check that belonged to cathy, the check out girl at target, should have checked her I.D. and saw that the accounts didnt match and called the police right then, and all of this other things would have come to “light” sooner. and maby all chaous and confusion could have been prevented, I hope she gets convicted to the fullest extent of the law. And as to the murder trial in june I will be watching any way I can. I just hope both trials are on in session I watch every day. you gguys are the best. amanda woody 1612 Green Acres Dr. Newport, Tennessee 37821. my E-Mail are ilovetim2005@yahoo.com write my and tell me what you all think about these trials. Honeydog,
Andrea Lyon agreed to take on this death penalty case. An answer to one of the questions put to her on a morning TV program: Casey didn’t commit this crime.
For what it’s worth, I believe everyone on Casey’s defense team believes she’s guilty as accused. What else can they think, knowing all the powerful circumstantial evidence. Lyon has been hired on to assure Casey escapes the death penalty.
I believe she will get life in prison. If she’s convicted, prior to the murder trial, of check fraud, she will face the more serious charges with a history of this criminal offense on her record.
Was Amy Huizenga right to press charges against Casey Anthony who stole her checkbook and spent that money as if it were her own? Yes. Amy’s fraudulent “friend” has to answer to this crime in court and take whatever punishment is dealt to her.

Hi Woodleigh~
I’m in total agreement with your 2nd and 3rd Paragraphs. All high-profile Criminal Defense Attorneys do what they’re “supposed to do” in Public— that is, Deny the Allegations. As I’ve said before, Andrea Lyon is “doing her Job”, even though we all sit in front of the TV Screen and shake our Heads in Disbelief. While I definitely know too that Casey will not at all be leaving the confines of Prison, personally, I’m really not so sure, as you are, how this is going to ultimately end-up. The Prosecution is not required to prove “Motive”, and there are many similarities with the Scott Peterson Case (No Weapon, No Fingerprints, No Witnesses, etc), but significant and over-whelming “Circumstantial” Evidence which can not be Denied, and, as we know, is more-often-than-not, much Stronger than Direct Evidence. “Forensics” aside, the finding of Caylee’s “Personal Belongings” with her Body— from her own Bedroom— the “Home Computer Searches”, the Fact that she was never reported “Missing”, and Casey’s straight-out Lie-after-Lie, is enough alone to make any Jury honestly believe that no one else could be Responsible. I just can’t put my Money on Ms. Lyon being successful on this one. Either way, the Trial will be quite Interesting.

This entire concept regarding serving probabation while in custody is the dumbest thing I ever heard of, someone made a paperwork error or did not make clarification in a serious case. That sounds like significant SPECIAL TREATMENT. Was she dating any of the police at this time?
Guess we are going to need a clearer explanation regarding double jeopardy, the check fraud cases were being held until after the murder cases. Several questions asked by Mr Baez almost opened the door to the release of these charges but I do not remember the check fraud charges being brought up to the jury I thought they were a felony. IN any case I thought that double jeopardy only referred to that one crime. She was aquitted (shudder the thought) the murder and G-D only knows how she was aquitted of child abuse, so double jeopardy would apply at the state level for murder charges. But she does not get carte blanche to do what ever she wants with what ever other crime. If for instance she gets drunk and kills someone or steals a car or some other felony she still can (AND Should) be charged with a crime in that case. Please put her on probation at least or try this in federal court under DUAL Sovernty. Thank you FLORIDA I also think that Mr Baez and Mr Mason have become too close to her physically as shown on TV, they may have physical as well as financial motives for staying close. IMMHO
