Casey Anthony: River of Tears in Court

Well, it appears Casey Anthony broke down quite a few times in court today while listening to arguments whether the death penalty should be on the table.

From the Associated Press:

Casey Anthony cried as prosecutor Jeff Ashton suggested that Caylee Anthony’s killer restrained her arms, dosed her with something that knocked her unconscious and put duct tape over her mouth and nose.

Ashton offered the scenario when explaining why he believes the case would qualify for the death penalty.

“Her killer would prepare some substance in advance that would render her physically unable to resist,” said Ashton during the pretrial hearing. “If the killer looked at her face, maybe the killer saw her eyes … First one piece (of tape), then two, then three so that no breath was possible.”

The cause of Caylee’s death remains unknown, but duct tape was found on the body.

Ashton offered the scenario in response to a defense request to bar prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.

Circuit Judge Stan Strickland said he would rule later.

Because the cause of death is still unknown, prosecutors are unable to prove that she suffered a heinous, cruel or atrocious death, which is the standard under Florida law for seeking the death penalty, said Andrea Lyon, one of Anthony’s attorneys.

“The real reason the state has asked for the death penalty is because they wish to get as biased a jury as they possibly can,” Lyon said. “It has the effect of coercing pleas in cases where that may in fact not be appropriate.”

Knowing that lawyers coach their clients I feel her tears were on cue.

  2. diana Says:

I think Casey is FINALLY realizing that she took her daughters life in a fit of rage, and now she can’t have a do-over. She wasn’t laughing today.

  3. laurali1 Says:

I have not heard the state has offered any plea deal. If they do Casey should sign her name and beg the judge to accept it. 3 pieces of duct tape on any face to me shows intent. jmo Casey once again cried for Casey.

The Ice Queen broke down ……. with crocodile tears right on Cue….Baez made motion to her (pardon the pun) and the gates opened up and there they were. What an actress? It was an award winning performance enough for an Oscar. Did she ever cry for Caylee since even before day 31? Certainly not after day 31.
State has not offered DP but Baez had better motion to her to grab it quickly. She will be spending time in prison for the check fraud case and I think she will make a plea deal with that baby.
WELL BELLA VITA CASEY…….this IS your life. Are you happy now?

  5. luvanrs Says:

One piece of tape was too many.

  6. Molly Says:

All an act. Cry on cue. She never “showed emotion” until lyons came on board. It’s part of the defense show. While ashton was speaking she had her head down, lifted it up & looked right at the camera. waterworks.

  7. Kareen Says:

Casey didn’t cry when she killed her kid. She went out to parties instead.
Now that her neck is on the line, she cries.
    CROCODILE TEARS.

  8. zelda Says:

I believe all p.paths cry only about what hurts THEM. They are incapable of feelings for others.
I have absolutely no sympathy for any murderer.Especially a child killer.Especially if they are the parent.
She can cry all she wants to.
    It’s just too late.

Okay, maybe you guys are gonna hate me, but, I’m really trying to be Open-Minded about what I observed.
While overall, I do agree with everyone’s Thoughts, Feelings, Opinions, Points, and Facts, I’m on Both Sides of the Fence here, having a bit of a different Take on the “Authenticity” of Casey’s Emotions. For me, *Diana*’s first 12 Words in her Comment is what I feel and believe to be True the most, and in a Nutshell. More than that however, I DO think Casey’s Tears were Real, not Coached, not an Act. There was a major Difference in what I saw tonight, compared to the only couple-of-times she “Sobbed” On-Screen before. While I DO think that Casey was Crying for HerSELF, I honestly think it was only “Partially”— that she was also Mentally-processing the full Picture of Caylee, and what she endured. Casey has not sat and listened to any of this being told before, let alone in such Cringing Horror. She’s been Snug-as-a-Bug in her Jail-Cell, the “Act” of the Crime was a Faded thing of the past in her Mind, and the previous Hearings were about HER. THIS time, I DO think she actually thought about Caylee, and the more Graphic the Prosecutor’s details, the more she obviously couldn’t take it, and the more she Fell-apart. It’s just my own personal Analysis, but I actually think she was, for the first time, Remorseful about the Child itself, as WELL as Reliving her part in it. Regardless of that, what I felt for certain from it all in the end— not that I didn’t believe it before— was undeniably-expressed Guilt.

I believe her tears were for herself. but I did notice one thing. Her face became red, exactly as described by those observing her when the discovery of Caylee’s body was reported on the jail radio. I guess the better term would be “flushed.”

  11. zelda Says:

    Good observations Honeydog.
I personally don’t analyze it that deeply any longer.
I want to see the humanity in everyone…….but sometimes it’s just moot.
I want to see a conscience……….I want to see real feeling ……..I want to see remorse.Sadly I cannot project those things onto a scenario just because I feel them.
I have four children……..thirteen grandchildren and five great grandsons.
While I have thought at one time or another all the things honeydog and others are saying, the time has run out for me to discuss the whys and meaning of her crying or whatever.
I keep seeing the innocent child. The screwed up family and the consequence of foul deeds. It sickened me in this case as well as all the others like it.
    God help us all.

  12. Kareen Says:

She didn’t cry until her lawyer wispered in her ear and even then she wiped her eyes when there were no tears.

  13. vidkid Says:

She was crying because she knew that her “goose is cooked”, sort of speak. Tears for herself…..

  14. Kareen Says:

I never been as sure about someone being guilty as Casey Anthony.
    This girl is downright EVIL
