DC Sniper Faces Execution Tonight
Virginia’s governor has refused to spare the life of convicted DC sniper John Allen Muhammad and has cleared the way for his execution tonight for the attacks in 2002 that left 10 dead.
Attorney J. Wyndal Gordon said Muhammad has no regrets and expects to die with dignity.

The three-week killing spree in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., was carried out with a teenage accomplice who is serving life in prison without parole. Muhammad, 48, was to die by injection at 9 p.m. after he exhausted his court appeals and Gov. Tim Kaine denied clemency.
Muhammad’s attorneys had asked Kaine to commute his sentence to life in prison because they said he was severely mentally ill.
“I think crimes that are this horrible, you just can’t understand them, you can’t explain them,” said Kaine, a Democrat known for carefully considering death penalty cases. “They completely dwarf your ability to look into the life of a person who would do something like this and understand why.”
Muhammad was sentenced to death for killing Dean Harold Meyers at a gas station in northern Virginia. He and his accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, also were suspected of fatal shootings in Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana and Washington state.
Prosecutors chose to put Muhammad and Malvo on trial in Virginia first because of the state’s willingness to execute killers. He and Malvo were also convicted of six other murders in Maryland and both were sentenced to six life terms.
The death penalty was later ruled out for Malvo because the U.S. Supreme Court barred the execution of juveniles, who was 17 during the killing spree.

John~~yes I heard on the news that the execution was tonight. We do not have the DP here in Canada. I still shudder at the thoughts of an execution, not that I am for or against it. I guess each case is unique and the jury feels they made the right decision.

Wow it has only been like 7 years and he is already going to be put to death? For a second I thought he was in a Texas prison.

This is sad all the way around as I see it.
A no win thing effecting many many lives forever.
The death penalty fits some situations as crappy as that sounds.
This guy made the choice to do what he did.It’s hard to get past that argument.
Ya just can’t murder people………….enough said.

Sometimes I’m “For” it, and, in other Situations, I’m Against the Death Penalty— like, while no Person has the Right to take another’s Life, in the Eyes of God, do we? I mean, isn’t the System also committing
Murder. It’s a Fine-Line, and it’s hard sometimes to know whether it’s Right or Wrong, what to Believe-in, and how to Feel (Personally, I’ve always kind of Thought that the types of “Public” Punnishments and Torture-Tactics of “Medieval” Times would better-suit alot of our Criminals, as well as Serve as a more-effective “Deterant” for Would-be’s). Anyway, in this case, what makes it Okay for me, is the Fact that Muhammad said he has “No Regrets”— that right there Justifies his Fate. Too bad, though, that these kind of People aren’t “Afraid” to Die, and that, in their Minds, it’s a Dignified Honor…. So, to him, it was no Big Deal. I think Criminals like this are the ones who would take it much Harder, and actually BE Afraid, if we used the Religious or Political things they Honor and Believe-in as the Tool to Break them Down and Destroy them as Human Beings…. In other words, Hit ‘em where it REALLY Hurts— THAT would be definite Punnishment to them. This guy could Care less that he was getting a couple of Easy, Painless Injections, and simply going to Sleep— he was Glad to do it. We’re Rid of the Likes of one more Killer, Justice has been given to his Victims, and their Families have their Closure, but, I don’t know, doesn’t it make ya really Angry that it didn’t even Phase the very one that it was supposed to Affect. I hate that…. He should have at least been Tortured first.

Yes, Diana, those are the two. The eldest employed his psychobabble military training to terrorize the locations.
More recently, a fellow came in behind me at a local ice cream shop wearing a black T-shirt that read:SNIPER-why run, you’ll only die tired.
I figured if he could actually hit the broad side of a red barn he wouldn’t be advertising it.But, he did have that shaved head tough guy look. All psychobabble!
