Casey Anthony: Your Thoughts on “Tot Mom”

By now, we’ve all read about the Australian play “Tot Mom” which is based on the tragic death of Caylee Anthony and her mother, accused murder Casey Anthony.

The play will star Cate Blanchett, was created by Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, and is scheduled to open on December 18.

We all know about book deals, made for TV movies, etc…

So, should we really be surprised that a play has been created? Should we be upset? Do we wish the play would be show for audiences in the United States?

What are your thoughts? Is this really that big of a deal or should it be expected in this day and age?

I think the entire thing is sick! If she or her family were paid any money for the rights to this story it should be all given to charity. Criminals or those suspected of horrific crimes should not be allowed to profit from them and if she can’t afford her own attorney’s…well, nothing wrong with a public defender like the rest of us.

Mikka~ Good article. A lot of people are pretty upset over this and just about everything else surrounding this case. I, for one, am just interested in the outcome of the trial…it the trial ever comes to be! It seems like it has been forever already and we have about 11 months to go, I believe.

  4. mikka Says:

    kreuzer, yes it is.

baez will be never ready for trial.

i agree with you, i believe the trial will start 2010!

  5. snoopysleuth Says:

John~~I have a feeling that we will never see the murder 1 trial take place. The defense needs to come up with a miracle. Baez should have instructed Casey to take a plea once she was charged with murder, Oct/08.

I heard the murder trial is scheduled for June 2010, barring delays. The prelims for the check/fraud are to be heard Dec 18th. That is sure close to Santa’s visit. The actual trial for the check/fraud is Jan 25/10.

    Snoopy~

I’ve read anywhere from June, 2010 to October, 2010. I wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere along the line we do see a plea deal. You never know what’s going to happen next in this case!

  7. snoopysleuth Says:

John~~it makes you wonder if the attorneys want things delayed as long as possible to retain their notoriety. In my lifetime, I haven’t seen anything come close to this case. So many players and so many who seem to have an agenda. It seems like Caylee’s memory and her justice is being replaced by a dollar sign. So very sad indeed.

  8. Diana Says:

George made the remark way way back in one of his first interviews with LE…..that Casey will take something to the limit and then just a little more. We saw that in the beginning with her taking the detectives to Universal, strutting down the hallway all the way to the door before FINALLY saying I don’t work here, when they already knew she was lying. What a trip. So my guess is…..she will take her “not guilty” plea clear up til the end when it will be too late to retract.

  9. luvanrs Says:

Oh well, the longer the delay, the longer she sits rotting in jail, getting fatter and losing out on life. I’d still like to see the trial start soon, but the delays just keep her out of society, so still getting what she deserves.

  10. snoopysleuth Says:

Diana~~what you said makes alot of sense, “taking it to the limit.” If Casey takes a plea, she has to stand before the judge and admit she murdered Caylee. I don’t know if she could get away with saying it was an accident. I wonder if there is a time limit on when it is too late to take a plea.

With regards to the Australian play about Tot Mom, I think it is disgusting.

  11. Ideas Says:

Is something to be learned by this case and its players?

Perhaps “Tot Mom” in some way or another will teach that something to its audiences.

So that there will be fewer Caylees…dead, or living in situations that she lived in.

  12. Molly Says:

The Sydney Theater is a non profit. Soderburgh is not making any money either, all proceeds are going to the National Center For Missing & Exploited Children. This is a well known, highly respected organization. The Anthonys are in no way involved, nor the defense team.

  13. snoopysleuth Says:

Molly~~I am so glad to hear the Anthonys and the defense are not involved. If the play helps save a child, I am all for it. Maybe they are using the play to set an example and teach. Thanks for letting me know it is a non-profit. It certainly changes my thinking.

  14. OneOp Says:

Glad to hear it is non profit. If there is anything in this play to help recognize a personality that should be examined and help prevent such crimes then it just may end up being ok. If it just zeros in on the crime alone, would think not a good to have been produced at all.

There are many still needing recognition of their instability and maybe just maybe this play could lead to the prevention of just one of murdering an innocent child. Maybe it will be viewed as a deterrent to crimes of this kind.

  15. Marian Says:

Doesn’t Cate Blanchett have enough money without trying to make more exploiting the death of a toddler? I think a picket line outside her current production of “Streetcar” in DC and Brooklyn would be a good idea–let her know some of us in this country have morals.

Regarding the Topic, I’m not at all Shocked that another Country is “Intrigued” by things of this Calibre which happen “Over here”, and I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t be Surpised either that it ends-up making its way to the States when all the Talk is sure to Hit here at some point— After all, we can’t seem to put things in their Right Perspective or Turn-down Anything and Everything that Money can be made off of, whether it’s Right or Wrong. And, as has been said, nothing is Surprising anymore where this Case is concerned. While it’s at least to the Play’s Credit that it will Benefit a Worthy Cause, my problem with it is the same as that of *Snoopysleuth’s* above— The “Interest” is all in Casey…. Little Caylee’s Memory, and the
“Recognition” SHE deserves, is being Over-Shadowed by Bestowing a kind of Twisted “Fame” upon her Mother. I also think that things like this just continues to Fuel and Satisfy George and Cindy’s personal Self-Gratification. They’re so Wrapped-up already in their Desire to be in the Spotlight, I’m afraid it’s going to eventually leave the most Important Figure in this whole Story behind in their and their Daughter’s Dust. Also, what is SO damn “Compelling” about this Liar and her equally less-than-Righteous Parents, when all it really and actually IS about is Lying and being less-than-Righteous? Casey Anthony is by far not the only Individual or Mother who has ever Lied,
Tortured, Abused, or Killed a Child. At most, the
“Teachings” in Cases like this would be much more Effective on Society in the long run if the misfortunate Child itself was Predominately Focused-on by way of Guest-Appearances by Family Members, Made-for-TV-Movies and the like, rather than typically “Celebritizing” their Killer. It’s just my Opinion, but, ultimately, people would no doubt Stop and Think MORE about the Preciousness of an Innocent Child and the meaning of the Loss of Life, if the Stories were more about THEM. Perhaps this “Opposite” Method would not only well-Serve the Child’s Lasting-Memory, but also leave a permanent Mark of Awareness on those Individuals watching and listening, who just might be Struggling-with, and even Considering, Harming their Child. Yes, we’re all Enthralled with the Goings-on of Casey and The Anthonys… it’s Natural— can’t be Helped; But when “Everything Casey” and “Everything George and Cindy” takes over, it’s also a Natural and Inevitable thing for Caylee to Slip-away further out of the Picture, and from our Thoughts. I Hope that the Play’s Director, and Cate Blanchett, realize it.

  18. Sophie Says:

I don’t think this play is any different than Fanning’s book or Mark Furhmans “The Business of Murder”. It’s just the nature of the beast.

It should at least cause someone/s just a little more embarrassment, drawing attention to the fact that nobody but her immediate family buys her ‘innocence’.

She’ll go down in history’s infamy row, and her parents are along for the ride.

  19. Honeydog0629 Says:

Yes *Sophie*… Casey, and her Parents, will be the ones Remembered MOST— CAYLEE is Lost in the Shuffle. I think what I was trying to get-accross was, how often do we Think about Lacy Peterson… how many times does Nicole Brown-Simpson come into Thought… how much do we automatically Remember Natalie Holloway— It’s always their Killers who take Presidence over the Memory of the Victims themselves. I would just like to see less of Money-Making Methods, Talk-Shows, Movies (AND Plays) which “Highlight” the Criminal, and Draws all the Attention away from the Victim. Sure, we won’t likely Forget any of these poor unfortunate Individuals, but it’s the Names and Information we know about the Person who took their Life— in Books, in Magazines, on TV, in Movies, etc— which ends-up being Predominant in our Memory. The Victim actually takes a “Back Seat” when all is Said and Done. Your’re right, it IS the Nature of the Beast. I just think it’s a Shame that the Victims hardly ever get the “Exposure” they Deserve.
