Casey Anthony: “Tot Mom” Play Set to Open in Australia
Now I’ve seen EVERYTHING!
It looks like the Casey Anthony case has been turned into a play entitled “Tot Mom”. The play was created by Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh and is scheduled to open on December 18 and run through approximately January 31. The play will be featured at the Sydney Theatre Company in Australia.
It looks like the case will feature all of the players involved, including Nancy Grace.
I can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts on this one! Let the discussion begin!
From the Associated Press:
Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has written a play about the case of slain Florida toddler Caylee Anthony, whose mother Casey is charged with killing her.
Australia’s Sydney Theatre Company plans to stage “Tot Mom” in December. Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and her husband are artistic directors of the prestigious group.
Soderbergh based the play on court documents and excerpts from the CNN show “Nancy Grace,” which highlighted the investigation.
Grace is being played by Essie Davis, who appeared in “Australia” and “The Matrix Revolutions.”
From Central Florida News:
Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has reportedly created a play based on the case, called “Tot Mom,” the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.
The play, based on the tragic events surrounding the death of Casey’s 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, is said to open in mid-December at the Sydney Theater Company in Australia.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
According to the company’s Web site, Soderbergh uses “excerpts from transcripts of Nancy Grace’s show, court documents and police reports” to create “a compelling drama for our sensation-hungry times.”
By going that route, Soderbergh would not have to compensate anyone for the material.
Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.
Essie Davis plays Grace.
The company’s Web site notes that Grace’s “public crusade for justice for little Caylee transformed the case from a tragic story to a 24-hour news spectacle.”

I do not mind saying, this is one of the sickest acts one could ever make, and I
wonder if they know they will have approval from the public because there is so
much annimosity and hateful comment so people will just eat it up. More hate
feeds on hate. Maybe I speak too soon. It may just be, it will be played out to
show us that we really come off as unrelentless justice seekers.

Oh for Gawds sake………….what a load of crap and horrifying bad taste. We are a sick lot in this country…….Anything for a buck and sensationalism. Soderbergh is an idiot. Yet one more nail in the country’s moral coffin.

*Zelda*.. It’s really not “our” Country— it’s Australia— but you’re Right, it does go to Show that the U.S. is apparently not the only Greedy Sickos in the World. As for the Play ITSELF (not that I’m Condoning it), I can see how “Foreigners” would be very “Intrigued” over something like this… a “Big Story” which Happened “Over There”. No doubt everyone will be Lining-up to see it (Ya know, like the Michael Jackson Movie Event currently making the Rounds in every Corner of the Earth). Other Countries seem to find our stuff like that “Fascinating”, and the Guy will probably make a Fortune on it. For some reason, I myself can’t Envision the Story being a “Play”— that’s a little Weird— but, nonetheless, better that it’s “Down Under”.. and not “Down the Street”.

what is the difference between this and the made for TV movie that will no doubt be realeased at some point. I think it is horrible that a little child’s death is being used like this. But, as with all sensational crime..this will sell. People just want to know and be a part of it. Why are we all on here??? Same thing..it fascinates us and we all want to be a part and talk about it. No difference except we’re not paying admission.

I Agree, *luvanrs*… No doubt we can Bet our Lives there will be a Made-for-TV Movie, just as with all the others that got put-out. What I find Weird about making the Story into a “Play” is trying to Imagine how it’ll be done— I mean, if it’s the “Whole” Story thus far— That would include having the Character of Caylee in it, and her Death, and all that kind of thing. I just can’t Fathom “Live People” on a Stage “Performing” everything we KNOW. TV Movies can go from one Scene to another completely-different “Skip-ahead” Situation, but how will a
“Play” cover those certain parts of this Case which would have to be a part of it. Like I said, I just can’t Understand it being done as a “Live Play”. And, for the Record, I don’t think it’s the kind of Material that a “Play”, in particular, should be made of.

I was referring to the American ethic…even if it’s shown”down under”.
It’s in bad bad taste in my opinion period.
If it flies there it will be on a billboard here soon.
