‘Balloon Boy’ Falcon Heene Found Alive at Home

The story finally comes to a happy ending! It seems Falcon Heene was scared and had been hiding in either his attic or garage the whole time as the story played itself out on national television.

From CNN:

The 6-year-old Colorado boy who is believed to have set adrift a helium balloon Thursday, prompting ground and air searches, has been found alive, authorities said.

He was found in a box in the attic at his family’s Fort Collins home, according to authorities.

From the New York Times:

The 6-year boy, Falcon Heene, was just found alive, according to reporter Dan Frosch, who is at the boy’s house in Fort Collins, Colo. A Larimer County Sheriff’s deputy said that he was found in a box in the family’s garage.

From MSNBC:

A 6-year-old boy was found alive at home Thursday, sheriff’s officials said, hours after the runaway flight of an experimental balloon riveted the nation and led to a frantic search for the child, who was feared to have fallen from the craft.

The news that the boy was safe came during a live press conference with Larimer County Sheriff’s Office officials.

A family’s runaway experimental balloon aircraft crash-landed in a field Thursday about two hours after floating away from home, but there was no sign of a 6-year-old boy.

i think boys will be boys i dont think the parents did nothing wrong my kids are the same way we cant be there 24 7 we need to worry about parents that hit and do nothing with the kids we do everything as a family we have 4 kids and have fun in every day things if its climbing a hill or a mountain look at the kids on cnn right now

  2. Diane Says:

The kid did nothing wrong? It sounds to me that these children have no discipline at home or else how can you explain the fact that he HID because the father yelled at him??! So is this the first time that the parents have ever disciplined their children and it even seems like now that they won’t discipline them. I will be seeing these kids on the Wildest Police chase videos on tv.

Also, I would like to know how much did this cost to assemble various rescue teams to meet up at the field? I would present the parents with a BILL for the time and expense it cost. Maybe one day they could then explain to their children just what consequences are out there for ones actions.

If this were my child, he would be grounded forever and a day. You don’t have to beat a child to discipline them but if I would have pulled this on my parents I would have been spanked. This is what society should expect from kids when their parents do nothing and leave it to the rest of us to deal with it. I hope they have no more children.

Shame on CNN (and soon the other networks) for giving these publicity-seeking NON-PARENTS airtime. This whole thing was probably a staged publicity stunt. The whole family are publicity whores, according to someone in Colo who knows them.

It is obvious that these children are totally on the loose, uncontrolled little brats. Did you see the footage earlier of one of the boys climbing on the family car roof, with no discipline from their parents? They are out of control, and all three of those kids will be spending jail time, once they become adults, but without learning the rules of responsibility in life of your actions.

  4. skeptic Says:

Hey, the “boy was set up” probably by his dad. He had snacks and water in his hiding box. Sure, every six year old thinks that through when running to hide from an upset dad. Maybe, some of the “news” agencies ought to do some real sleuthing.

I agree with Diane and Eldobear! These are a couple of lousy parents whose “me-ism” is supplemented with “our-family-needs-to-be-in-your-face-ism”. It’s the typical suburban thinking of “my kids can do no wrong” and “to hell with everyone else” that you see everyday with the screaming brats at the restaurant and the parents with the mousey voices saying “Now don’t do that!”, as they’re drowned out by the brat’s volume. This family sure is lacking any “scientific” knowledge: The balloon improperly tethered, the kids up on a roof with a camera, the balloon containing at least some helium, the balloon not out of access to other children – a horrible scenario ready to develop. Then the amount of money and time wasted following the balloon so the little heller can be rescued – putting police, fire, EMT and National Guard personnel at risk of injury at least while not being able to be at normal duties. I say bill the family in total! Whether a hoax or not, the family needs held accountable!

  8. Joanaroo Says:

To continue, the family doesn’t have much common sense or decency. The rescue workers do their duties all to find out the brat isn’t even in the damn balloon-then everyone expects the worst and it becomes a search for a possible DEAD child. Then, oh guess what, “HA! HA! It’s a miracle!”…”Boo-hoo! I’m sorry I yelled at him earlier!” Where’s the discipline?…No “We take responsibility for the responder’s time and cost…We’re sorry for our kid’s behavior and putting other kids in risk of danger.”. Idiots. Now in the USA reality show mindset it’ll be as many TV shows we can do, book deals and movie deals. Reward asinine behavior all around! My parents would not let this go unpunished but then again most children are taught to be accountable, respectful, courteous and obedient, not be publicity seekers and manipulative. Shame on these “parents”. Next time your little darlings have their “adventure” in the public’s face you may not have such a happy ending.

  9. Sam Kaufman Says:

The balloon boy story would not have gotten so much publicity if a few of those news reporters had bothered to watch that myth-busters episode about how many helium balloons it takes to lift one small child (thousands)

  10. knight Owl Says:

Just my opinion but to me this was clearly a publicity stunt staged by the parents. The Dad built this piece of junk balloon, so he would have to know if his six year old kid could or would fit in that box/basket, that fell off, and since it was built to hold a battery then he would know if it would hold even his kids weight at that age. Plus what is wrong with police and resque’s common sense. That box/basket would have been the only thing the kid could have possibly gotten in, in the first place as there was no where else the kid could have entered inside the balloon, so it was stupid to be following a balloon that clearly one could see had no entryway while flying for miles. The only thing they should have been checking on was the stupid box/basket that fell off early on. Also, the parents to these kids obviously from what i have observed are about a hundred bricks each shy of a load. This six year old is throwing up on tv and neither the Mom or Dad have enough sense to say, we have to cut this interview as i have to take care of my sick child. Instead, they, only when the interviewer says, would you like to go take care of your child, does a light come on in the Mom’s head and she says, yes. Plus what kind of parents take their children storm chasing? Enough said~~

  11. Joanaroo Says:

Just guessing-but wouldn’t the responders have to go on a 911 call anyway due to our sue-happy society? And who expects that some a$%^*le old enough to know better is going to call and tell you his spoiled damn kid is in a balloon flying across the state? Blame the irresponsible parents for being so mental and publicity-hungry. If the damn balloon had come down on a major highway or power lines you’d have people bitching about where the police are.
