Matt Holliday Packs Bags for St. Louis
The St. Louis Cardinals made the biggest move to date in 2009 this afternoon by acquiring outfielder Matt Holliday from the Oakland Athletics.
We knew it was coming but it’s sad to see him go
With a week to go until the July 31 trading deadline, who’s next? Roy Halladay?
From the New York Times:
The Athletics will receive third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and pitcher Clayton Mortensen and send $1.5 million to the Cardinals.
Holliday is expected to bat cleanup and start in left field Friday night when the Cardinals play the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Cardinals, who are eighth in the National League in runs scored per game and lead the Central Division by 1.5 games over the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros, had been in the market for a bat to support Albert Pujols in the lineup.
