Michael Phelps and Sarah Palin Help to Boost SNL Ratings
It seemed with all the buzz around the season premier of Saturday Night Live that you had to expect the episode would draw great ratings. Now, all we need is Barack Obama and John McCain to appear and, hell, maybe have a debate on the show. Or at least SNL actors playing their roles!!
From Reuters:
With a little help from Tina Fey doubling as Sarah Palin and from guest host Michael Phelps, “Saturday Night Live” logged its best season premiere since 2001.
It was also the most-watched “SNL” for any date since December 17, 2002, when former vice president Al Gore was the guest host and jam band Phish was the musical guest.
“SNL” averaged a 7.4 household rating/18 share in the top 55 “metered” markets, Nielsen Media Research said Sunday. Saturday’s program was up 64 percent compared to last year’s season premiere on September 29. The top market was Baltimore, the hometown of Olympics hero Phelps.
From Trendhunter Magazine:
The combined power of Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and guest host Michael Phelps has earned Saturday Night Live its best season premier since 2001.
It seems there is just no stopping the mania of Sarah Palin. Even though celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Matt Damon have explicitly attacked her, everyone else seems captivated by the former beauty pageant queen.

Baltimore is eagerly anticipating Phelps’ return home. Two separate events are planned for October 4th. One in his hometown of Towson, MD and then a big celebration, including other MD Olympic athletes, down at Fort McHenry. For details go to http://www.baltimore.org/phelps.
