Laurence Fishburne Joins CSI Cast
I don’t usually get very excited about celebrity news but this was a story that jumped out at me. CBS is now confirming that Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne is joining the cast of CSI this season as William Petersen’s replacement.
From the New York Times:
Mr. Fishburne’s character, a former pathologist who senses violent tendencies within himself, will make his entrance amid a murder investigation in the ninth episode of the coming season, CBS said. His character will eventually join the Las Vegas Crime Lab and replace William Petersen, who has played the lead investigator, Gil Grissom, since the show had its premiere in 2000.
Mr. Petersen confirmed last month that he was leaving the cast, although he will remain as an executive producer.
Being a CSI fan, it will be great to add one of hollywood’s top actors to the show this season. Fishburne’s character does not yet have a name but is being referred to simply as “the professor.”
CBS does not yet have an airdate for Fishburne’s first episode, but a rep said it may air in 2009. No matter when he debuts, you should expect a lot of hype and that CSI will allow Fishburne to integrate into the cast well. I’m very much looking forward to this and assume that his character will be very psychological and dark. Thoughts?

You know I hate to see William Petersen leave the show because he’s such a quirky character. However, I think Laurence Fishburn will be an excellent replacement. Apocalypse Now, Boyz n the Hood, What’s Love Got to Do with It?, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Just Cause, The Tuskegee Airment, Othello, Miss Evers’ Boys, The Matrix, Mystic River, Akeelah and the Bee, Mission Impossible III, 21. How can you beat credits like that?
